I have a Kubota B7610 24 HP in need of a brush hog. The 5 foot vs. 4 foot question seems to roll on so I am trying to find a used 4.5 foot hog. They dont seem to exist here on the Jersey Penn border (although it seems that just about everyone in the Midwest esp. Ohio owns a brush hog). Ive watched Craigs List and E-Bay for over 15 months now with not much to pick from. Traveling 5-600 miles to pick up a used attachment is not cost effective or practical. Should I just break down and buy a new one? Same question goes for rear tillers (3-4 feet). I can't pay $1500 for a Woods and $1000 for the tiller (my wife would kill me). What specific brands do you suggest (BH to clean up a messy scrub forest - will be worked; tiller to create new gardens - less work). Any other suggestions. Thanks.

Don't know what your needs are but your tractor should be able to handle a 5' model if dealing with small trees are not an issue. My sim sized tractor handle my 5' model with ease. As for a tiller, you might give consideration to a used import model from Yanmar. Almost any gray market dealer could help you out here. My 4.5' tiller has been a dream and handles all I ask of it. these can be had for $300-$600 depending upon size, model and condition.

My 25 hp engine tractor has handled a 5'er for 16 years now. It has cut brush way to big for it and it's kinda cool because it doesn't have enough power to shear the bolt so if it's too big it just bogs down some.

As far as buying one new you must not have too too much need for one or you'd have one already so to me it sounds like a light duty would do you just fine. I have a 5' howse and like I said it has done much more than I should have asked it to do. I think a 5' howse is only about 600.00 now. Hope it helps.
