I am in the market for a 7-foot landscape rake with guage wheels. Any experience and advice with brands out there? I know a fellow with a Woods who is happy with it, and I have heard that buying cheaper off-brands like Farm Force from Tractor Supply is money wasted due to lack of endurance.

Just got a Woods (60" due to the fact I have a BX 2350).I looked at a number of rakes and was not satisfied with what I saw. The Woods is pricey but I think I got my moneys worth...its **** for stout, well made and it does what I wanted to do.

Obviously there is a lot of good products out there but the Woods was the one that kept popping up as I looked around.

It was a buy once, cry once sort of deal. Good luck

I've had both a 7' Woods and a Landpride 2584...medium duty. I traded my Woods for the Landpride. Both are well-made, but the gauge wheels on the Landpride were bigger, more stout, and further from the tines, allowing them to swing around for backing up. I admit to severly abusing my Landpride with a land clearing project and found the darn thing kept asking for more...so I gave it more...stones, branches, dirt, roots, stumps, etc. Bent a few tines, but none broke...and I was able to bend the tines back into approximate alignment.

The Woods however, had better overall fit n' finish, better paint, better color, better 3ph pin attachment, and sturdier stand. I think the tines are very similar and would take the same abuse without breaking. Both companies use good steel. The only thing I prefer about the Landpride is the gauge wheel set.

If/when you decide to buy, I would suggest going with a medium duty rake if you plan on using it for land clearing or grading. You can use the extra weight to keep the tines planted, digging, or staying on top of the pile your dragging. Have fun...the rakes are a great attachment.

Once you decide what rake you want...............add a hyd cylinder for hyd angle control. That is one of the best and worthwhile projects I ever did. Also adding the indoor/outdoor carpet as a stone deflector works great too.

Sincerely, Dirt

I bought a Leinbach 7' rake with gage wheels a few months ago. It has been getting worked hard and seems to do a great job. Total cost for the rake and wheels was ~$800. The negatives that I have seen are paint and the gage wheels had to be taken apart and greesed before they would work correctly. I also am not fond of the adjustment process for the wheels. There are two collars that have to be set for each wheel. the york rake I was using before this had just one set screw for each wheel and was a little better to work with. For the money it seems like a good option.

Thanks for the great information from all of you. I got a quote from my dealer today on a Woods 84-inch (7-foot) rake with wheels: $1500, includes set up and delivery. Does that sound about right? It's certainly pricier than many of the others out there, but I have consistently heard from Woods owners that they are happy with the quality. If there are others out there who have bought for less, I could bargain. Thanks again, one and all.

I have a Woods LR72. I think this is the lighter duty range. Nice rake but I did manage to break three or four tines backing into a stump. Not sure the Woods is worth all that much more than the other brands. I previously had a Bush Hog that was just as well made.
