I have been quoted $1500 by my local dealer, including set-up and delivery, for a Woods 84-inch (7-foot) landscape rake (LR107-2 medium duty). Anyone out there done better in the past year or two?

Wow 1500 for a rake. Many of us have made them for a third of that or less.

Sorry can't help you on the price, just amazing me how that can be priced more than a RC or about the same as a RFM. A rake is a really cool tool though. You will get some use out of it.

Good Luck,
Rob

With or without Gauge Wheels?

As far as setup, I always buy my implements "on the shipping pallet, as is, where is"....no need to pay them 50 bucks to tighten a few bolts and adjust a few doo-dads.
If delivery is an issue for you (no pickup, or trailer) then you got no choice on that one...

I havent bought a rake yet, but your price seems a little bit higher then I saw last.

FYI, i was just talking to a woods dealer Monday and he said its gotten to the point that between Steel & Shipping, he cant even quote out anything "exactly" from woods until he officially orders it. He had just gotten a fax from Woods stating such...
I dont know who that applies to though, this dealer gets his Woods stuff in smaller batches, Kubota Orange, etc... I got another dealer nearby that is considerably cheaper..but he gets truckloads of various Woods products at a time in the basic Woods yellow paint.

Topshop,
It depends on where you are in relation to the dealer. If you live in CA you're going to get smacked hard. All this talk about steel prices, transportation costs, this is a fact of life right now. I know a guy in the biz and the price this week will not be good next week.

Granted some people will and are taking advantage of this situation but on the whole it's still a real problem. I don't know if this will help you but I got the Estate Series LRC 60 Woods rake and paid $945.00 including wheels and tax. ( in CA, especially on the coast we pay $3.96 for 89 octane) The best price I could find!!!!! That was in a 100 mile radius. Could not find anyone lower...and I tried.

If I had the where with all, I'd build one, but I don't.

And while I'm at it I have to say we let this situation happen to ourselves. It's our elected "officials" that we let run amuck. China is rubbing it's hands.

Good luck. Paul

Thanks for the feedback. My $1500 quote was with gauge wheels--and it's the medium duty Woods LR107-2--they are said to be very tough and high quality. The dealer is only about 17 miles away, and he lives even closer to me and simply can swing by on his way home. His attentiveness and service is worth something to me, although I'm not sure it's worth this premium. I know I can get something cheaper from Tractor Supply--but I did that with a box blade and ended up curling up the diagonal braces like wet noodles the other day (seems like I wrestled with some tough roots). They used steel too light for those pieces and would have been fine had they used the same gauge as the other pieces on it. I had a fellow weld steel bars onto them after straightening them, and that should do the trick.

Have you looked at the Landpride model. I compared the two a couple years back. I liked the larger gauge wheels on the landpride LP2572. yes you can get rakes much cheaper, I have used a few styles over the years. For dragging stuff around and general work the cheaper ones work fine, but for me I was doing professional landscape work, and the heavier units with gauge wheels (a must) will provide a very nice level surface.

I got the same price last year on the same unit with guage wheels here.Ended up getting the 6 foot standard duty LR72 with guage wheels for $800. Plenty good unit for me.

JDMike,
Thanks for the Alderson's website. Their prices are highly competitive and should be useful in bargaining---or if I want to take a ride, to buy directly. And thanks to the others for your insights and information. After using a hand landscaping rake most of the day today, I only wish I had purchased sooner!

Topshop:just noticed your location. Is your local dealer Dean Thomas at Don's Tractor in Alpena? He has an excellent reputation for service and the prices always seemed fair to me.I bought Woods LR72 w/guage wheels,GB60 box blade,& RB72 back blade last year for $2000-not an outstanding deal, but certainly not a hose job.
