What do you guys/gals use/recommend to sharpen blades.
Where would you buy it?

I have 3 blades off my Landpride FDR 1672

am thinking grinder with built in angle adjustment.

I now use a Delta bench grinder, but before that my Craftsman table saw equipped with a grinding wheel did a very good job: good angle control and consistent tracking. A radial arm saw could do the job, too. As you might guess, I enjoy metal working more than wood working. Actually, the use of the saw for other metal cutting applications is very convenient.

I currently use a Craftsman 6" bench grinder, but I've also used a 4.5" angle grinder in the past. And for finish mower blades, if you want a really sharp blade, a sanding disk on a high speed die grinder works well, too.

4" or 4 1/2" angle grinder. Just follow the factory angle by watching for a full width cleaning. Grind so the wheel goes down and off the blade. Normally, you just need to touch them up a bit and that can even be done with them on the machine if you have a place to safely block it up. (Don't go gett'n squished !)

4.5" angle grinder for me.

Wife has a commercial lawn care business so it keeps me in practice :)

I only sharpen in a vice, for me it is quicker to pull, do them right, and re-install then to try and do them under the deck.

i did the first time with my bench grinder, the second time with my hand held 4.5" angle grinder.

was much more pleased with the results with the angle grinder

I like a corded dremmel tool with a stone. Plenty of RPMs and it's easy to follow the angle. This may take a few minutes longer but I rarely have to go back and touch up because one is out of balance.

If they are in really bad shape I use 4.5 grinder. But usually I just use a 2" air grinder to clean them up with. But I allways finish them with a large flat file.

thanks for the replys.

I bought 3 new blades and would like to keep the others for back up.
I currently use a Milwaukee die grinder while the blades are still on.(looking for the best way)
wow what a pain in the --- taking these blades off.--Do you have any tips on a better way to get them off I used a block 4x4 then I use breaking bar with a pipe for a extender and bang she pops then I used the ratchet, my impact gun will not do it.

getting back to the right tool for the job of sharpening --is the bench grinder the only one with the built in angle feature?
