I am going to pick up an ATV sprayer for the tractor in the next couple of weeks. I have two in mind based on advice from this site. But I cannot decide which is better for my application.

Primarily, I am spraying blackberries, around trees and in some open meadow areas.

As I do not own one and cannot find one local to look at, I thought I would ask here. In some areas it would be nice to spray wide, maybe for bugs around the orchard, but for the most part I want to keep the spray going down, off the trees as the Crossbow is nasty stuff.

My question is does the boomless sprayer work like the boomed sprayer, in that I can spray adjust the nozzles to only spray a limited width path. Or is the width of my spray 30 feet and that is that. Like I said, if I could find one local I think I could get an answer, but in LA I am speaking code to the home and garden shops...

Oh, here are the two I am thinking about

There is not much leeway between having pressure and flow up to the demands of the nozzle with it's rated width and just dribbling out if you can't deliver that much liquid. There is not a knob to turn to adjust the width to 24' instead of 30. You might think about getting a wand for spot spraying around sensitive things you don't want to kill then using the boomless nozzle for more open areas.

I have a tee-jet boomless nozzle that delivers 18 gpm out across 60'. It is fantastic for my pasture but not so good around the house and bushes.

I have a boomless sprayer. Most of the time I wish I had a boomed sprayer because I could get closer to trees and the house. I use the sprayer to spray 20 arces of trees, and I really have to watch where I drive.

The only way I can control how wide it goes is by turning the 2 ouside nozzles inward. It works well, and I use the wand a ton...

I have a Fimco lg 24 rm, (:: FIMCO Industries :: LG-24RM-4R Trailer Sprayer). And I am really happy with it.

I was going for the 12 volt model also, until I found they had both at the local airport. The 12 volt model works, but boy is it wimpy, compared to the gas model. Drift from even light wind, is much more likely when using the boom, on the electric model, because of the lower pressure.

I use the boom for wholesale spraying, and the wand for spot treatment, or areas you can not drive in.

Think of the wand as an adjustable pressure washer nozzle. You can make a fan or a pinpoint. With the electric model, the volume of material is minimal. On the gas model, it is a pressure washer.

The gas model is pricey, but, it is the only way too go. I went 1/2er's with my dad, and we share it. Even with the gas model, it still take hours to do all 4 acres of my lawn, as careful application requires a painfully slow ground speed.
