Woods back blade and 60\" King Kutter Tiller

Greetings...

Well, I'm in the "anxiously awaiting" boat now too /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif. Just purchased a used 7' Woods Back Blade (lighter-duty, but with swivel and tilt) and a NEW King Kutter 60" Tiller (from TSC (In Sherrill, NY-seemed like good, knowledgable folks over the phone anyway)). A friend with a truck will be heading around picking these units up over the next week or so (Sherrill, NY is about 3 hours away, one-way, and he's headed out there anyway (and wants to borrow the tiller /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif)), so until then I can just plan (and wait for it to stop raining...).
I did find out that the 60" King Kutter Tiller does not offset.

Is your friend planning on hauling both in one trip? If so, I hope he has a big truck. The tiller weighs about 640lbs, and in the crate you have to turn it the long way in a pickup bed. Might be fun getting both tiller and blade in a pickup. The guy who loaded my tiller wasn't too swift with the forklift. Took a while to get it in.

Thankfully they will be separate trips-the backblade is a bit closer, and hopefully will mysteriously appear this weekend. Do you recall the rough dimensions of the crate? (he's trying to decide if he can fit it in his work van or not...).

Crate dimensions.....it did not project much past the ends of the tiller and was about three feet tall and 2.5 feet wide...maybe. So call it perhaps a 5.5 x 2.5 footprint, about 3 feet tall. It will fit in a full sized van, but the pallet is designed to be forklifted on the long side, and you need to slide it in the other way. In loading my pickup, we used chains on the forks to lift the pallet with the narrow end towards the bed, but there would be clearance problems with a van, I would think. If they have a loading dock you may be able to slide it in with a lot of grunting. Two forklifts would work....first one lifts the crate and sets it on forks of second forkilift in correct orientation. Then second forklift deposits crate in van on some blocks. Then there's getting it out of the van at your place. To unload mine from the truck, I backed up to my compost pile, worked some plywood up under the crate, and then slid it off onto the pile by brute force....my son and I supplied the brutes. If you put a piece of plywood in the van before loading, it might make life easier.

I actually had a great time the other day taking a woodstove out of the pack of a vehicle (it (the woodstove) was on a pallet), then driving it up a footpath (with the tractor /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif) to place it IN someones door at their cabin. FEL, attachable forks, and 4wd are dangerous things.../w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif.
