I just bought a used Kubota L35 & I'm thinking of buying a used York rake with scarifiers and blade. I'm trying to find out how wide a rake and blade combo an L35 can handle.

The tractor is 4 wheel drive, 35 horse power and fitted with tractor tread tires. The manual says it will handle a box blade at 72 inches and 400lbs but it doesn't list a rake capacity. I'll be using the rake and blade for maintaining gravel and crushed stone driveways and parking lots.

I'm thinking a box blade will pull harder than a back blade & rake. I'm thinking the tractor will handle a rake and blade combo of 7 to 8 feet. Any thoughts?

I've found a few York rake Pro models listed at 8 feet and I've asked for additional information regarding weight but no return info yet. Yorks' web page doesn't list the Pro model. Any of you used a Pro model and any thoughts on the ability of the L35 to handle it.

Welcome to TBN :D! I use an 8' landscape rake to do the tasks you mentionned without difficulty with a tractor smaller than yours. Jay

Like Jay said, welcome to the forum. The L35 is a great tractor and you do not have to worry about a 7’ or 8’ size rake, it will handle either. If it were me, I would look at the 7’ model because there are times you might want to rotate the rake/blade to a reverse position and there will not be enough clearance to do that with an 8’ model. Also as versatile as the blade/rake combos are if you plan on heavy blading the combo units are not as strong as a stand alone blade. There have been several comments posted in the past of damage done to the blades on the combo units when used to hard.

Kubota tends to be very conservative when recommending size and weight limits of attachments. I would not think twice of using a 6’ 1000 pound box blade on your tractor. A 400 pound box blade is a light duty unit and weight is your friend when it comes to box blades.

Thanks for the welcome note and I'm glad to be here.

When I bought the tractor I was told to be careful with attachments. I bought from an individual and he told me not to go cheap on buckets or attachments. He said "buy heavy duty or you'll spend more time welding than using." He said "this thing is a little bear and will rip up any light and most medium duty attachments."

My drives are in good shape but every year I wind up using round up at least twice each summer and placing a light cover of 3/4 inch stone. I wanted to scarify the top inch or so to rip up the weed roots and reuse the existing stone. One parking area is covered with weeds and untill I bought the tractor I'd given up on the round up and just started mowing the area.
Now I bought the tractor and I'm going to go at it again with round up and scarify and rake the weeds out.

I sure appreciate your input there seems to be an awful lot of attachment options. You know the old saying, "Boys and our toys". Problem is, these toys aren't cheap! Thanks again.

It's not the size of the rake that might be a problem, it's the scarafers. 8 feet is a lot of them to pull through heavy material with roots and rocks.
