Personally I would throw a lot of money at it. Landscape rake should take care of it just fine. Might take a few passes but once its whipped into shape you should be good to go.

Leinbach Yard Tool might also work pretty good and be cheaper.

Meant to say "wouldn't" throw a lot of money at it!

Hi Everyone - many thanks for all these great replies in just 24 hours! I have a lot of options to try now. I'll post what we do just in case anyone's interested in how it turns out. I've been on a lot of special interest sites, forums, etc. over the years - TractorByNet feels like a very friendly place. Glad to be here. :)

Never owned a hay burner... However, I DO own a couple Leinbach soil pulverizers. (model 61's)

Yard Tool

They're relatively compact, stout enough to withstand use in rough conditions and higher hp tractors, and very versatile. I use mine to grade a gravel driveway from time to time. They do an excellent job with that chore. (Not to mention being ideal for their original intended purpose)

A neighbor, who is aflicted with "equestrianism" is constantly borrowing one of my pulverizers to maintain his arena. He says it works perfect and is the cheapest alternative.... Yeah, FREE if he borrows it forever....;)

I've seen everything from an old mattress box sprig used.. to a RR timber.. .. to more commercial units like a flexible drag harrow.. etc... on up to the nicer rotary harrows.

Sky's virtually the limit..

I frequently used my Yanmar 5' rototiller on my horse arena to make a perfectly groomed ring. You can go to far down though. The horses will lame up if you lunge them too long. Experiment to get the depth and consistency you want.

Hello All - again, many thanks to everyone for all these great replies. After keeping my eye on Craigs List in my area for the various attachments you've all mentioned, I received a 10% coupon from Tractor Supply and bought a 6' York Rake. I spent about 2-3 hours dragging it around and got most of the weeds out or at least up and it's almost level sandy soil again. Turning the rake around and dragging it backwards works well to help spread and level it out. A few more times and I think it will be back to sandy soil. Getting a wheel kit would probably make quicker and smoother work of it. I've got a feeling I will need roundup or the like this spring, but the cold is almost here in NH. Best to you all.
