I recentley purchased an older set of JD running gear that I plan on constucting a flat bed for. The wheels an tires are in pretty rough shape, not to mention different sizes. The problem with replacing them is that the existing hubs have 6 bolts spaced around a 6" circle. I thought that I would just be able to pick up a set of old truck tires, but most of the ones I have come across with 6 bolts are set on a 5.5" circle. I was wondering if anyone ha any thoughts on where I could pick up a set of 6 on 6 tires and rims? Were they ever used on any vehicles?

Thanks

I would try a trailer place.
My boat trailer has 6 studs and I seem to remember that it is the same bolt circle as my 1987 1/2 ton Chevvy suburban was.
So, try looking for rims for 1/2 ton 4WD GM trucks and SUVs of the late 80s.
If you get to the right tables on the web you can find if it is 6 inch diameter and correct stud size.
Failing that - boat yard, not ALL marinas are rip off joints (-:

EDIT:
Sorry, I just looked up '87 suburban 4WD.
It is in fact 6 on 5.5.
I think the trailer place is next.

M.E. MIller Tire

They should be able to help you. They've bailed me out numerous times.

My ex's family had a whole bunch of old rims for JD and NH running gears that they aquired over the years from their dairy farm. The rims were all in good shape and I am not sure how they got as many of them as they did. While I was still with her I did pick up a couple spare rims and mounted tires on them so I had good spares for my wagons. If I was still talking to them I would ask about getting some more rims for you but for personal reasons I am staying away. However, if you have any dairy farms around you it might be worth it to stop and ask them as they may have some old rims laying around that will fit your needs.

If that doesn't work any farm equipment dealer will be able to order new rims the size you want but the last rim I bought was 3 years ago and it cost me $55 so it may be more then you want to spend on the project.

6 on 6 is very odd. If your centers are still good you could possibly cut them out and use the rings from some other cheap wheels to make what you need.

Thanks for everyones' input. It seems like a popular size for agricultural equipment, but not for vehicles. When I originally purchased the running gear, I assumed that I would just be able to pick up a set of rims and tires for short money. It's definitely more of a fun project, not really anything that I care to invest a ton of money in. I'm sure I'll find something if I keep my eye out. At least I know where I should be looking now.

Probably about 26 inches. I'm really not too concerned about what size I replace the existing wheels with. I just want to find a decent deal on a new matching set, as the ones on the wagon now are different sizes/types.

go to tractor supply, they have new wheels and the tires are also in stock, quit running around everywhere looking for something so simple,

worst case the front wheels and tires off most 2wd tractors will also fit...
you can thank me later...:thumbsup::cool:
