I have a Kodiak brush hog & have been happy with it. I think they all use the same outsourced gearboxes, etc. (not applicable to box blades I guess) but the actual cutter body was much better fabricated & better designed than others I looked at in the medium price range.

I'd buy from them again.

Kodiak implements are made near Chattanooga. I have one of their rotary cutters. It didn't cost a lot because there was no transportation charge. The dealer simply drove over to the plant and picked it up.

I have not seen their box scrapers, but if they are like their cutters, they will have a light duty model and a medium or heavy duty model. Either should be decently made, but the light duty model will probably weigh less than is ideal. The same would be true for most brands.

What I don't understand is why someone located in Maine would be getting a simple implement like a box blade from Tennessee. Isn't there a closer manufacturer. The shipping charges are going to add a bunch to the price.

my dealer gets them in, not sure why i'll find out what grade it is when i get it this week i dont believe it's the light duty 1 and it was 500 and change. not for me to question as long as i get a good product.

Pretty simple really....None are made here!
My Personal Examples:
-Tractor: JD = Georgia
-Box Blade: Woods = Illinois
-Snowblower: RAD/Blizzard = Thetford Mine Quebec Canada

You make it sound like we all have the luxury of going down to the "Corner Fab Shop" and picking up a tiller or box blade...IMO if you buy from a sizeable dealer, shipping isnt even an issue... If you end up special ordering something needed "next day" then yes, you'll pay dearly for shipping. Even if its only shipping from the next county over...

I have never looked at what i was buying by what part of the world it came from, just as long as it is a good product for the money. I hope it comes in as the HD one.

Shipping is very much an issue. It affects price. It especially affects the price of heavy steel implements. Trucking charges are not cheap, and the dealer has to pay for them.

At least two of your examples are major brands, JD and Woods. Kodiak is a minor brand. Box blades are very heavy but simple devices. A lot of smaller manufacturers make them. If the BB comes from a manufacturer that isn't close by, the dealer will have to charge a higher price just to cover the freight.

Unless someone feels the need to buy a major brand BB, it makes sense to just shop price versus weight. The closer the point of manufacture, the lower the price should be, everything else being equal.

BTW, there are four manufacturers of box blades within 60 miles of me, that I know of, including Kodiak. One is a small fab shop/implement dealer combination. They make their own BBs and sell them directly to the end user. They also sell tillers. :)

True story....the names have been changed to protect the innocent..:D
Back in the day when a US Dollar got you $1.51 CDN dollars (I'm from a border town), A local "penny pincher" figured he could save a few bucks on a new Snowblower by getting it at the source across the border(shopped locally first)...called around, made the contacts, etc.. and went to get his blower in person.... by the time he got it back home and all was done & said he had the SAME EXACT money into it as going 20 miles to the local dealer....

The MFG usually has 2 prices... MSRP, and Wholesale...even if I drove all the way to the Woods factory, on FREE Gas, they would probably charge me full MSRP anyways...Might as well get it on my way home from work.

Where I'm going with this is.... Joe Schmoe buying 1 box blade probably isnt gonna get nearly as good a deal as "XYZ Super Dealer" who is buying a whole TRUCKLOAD of Woods BB's in one shot. Best thing for the best deal...shop around and get the best price. If driving 300 miles to "save" 150.00 is worth it to you, then go for it...me...I'll shop around and get it Cheaper Locally.
