As JB said.. unless the 8n has had a pto shaft change.. it may still have the oem 1 1/8 6 spline shaft and not the 1 3/8 modern 6 spline shaft.
An overrunning coupler will fix the splines dimeter issue and make a mower safe-er to run on the tractor.

ALL the 8ns came with the small shaft. There was a 'SAE shaft upgrade.
The small shafts were still being used into the NAA model, post 8n.. I have an NA witht he small shaft.. etc..

Actually, some of the early 640's had the small shaft too. Least ways, a buddy has one with the small shaft, a 1955 640.

Ditto that...I've also seen early 55's with the small shaft.. etc.
