Around here we call that a spring tooth harrow. I took the teeth off an old horse-drawn model that had been in our family for 3 generations (the frame was toast) and mounted them on an angle iron to make a tool bar harrow. It works great for breaking up the soil. When I was a kid (in more than just mind), first we ploughed, then used the disc harrow, then the spring tooth to till the soil.

Its a spring tooth harrow like others said, I had a friend of mines dad in high school had found one on an old place they boughtwhile cleaning up. It was about 8 feet wide but a tree had mushed the frame in the past. he was about to scrap it which shocked me. The maThe dad told me it wasnt any thing but scrap then I made a bet that I could make a handy tool out of it. They were cleaning up with an old Jubilee Ford and had a time with the roots and sticks and briars. I offered to build him a 3 point mount tool bar from some tubing they had laying around. I mounted all the teeth on the bar close together making a landscape rake of sorts. I won the bet they clean an entire farm raking debris afterwards with that rake. I saw it sittnd be hind a new Newholland lastweeknd.

till dirt. does basicly the same thing as a disc just older version.

if memory servers from previous discussions you need about 5hp per tooth to pull it at full depth

I dont think this is right. I have used a 10ft wide one behind my old 8n and had it dig in as far as I could get it to go and it pulled it just fine.
