Default Used New Holland 716C Snowblower Questions?

I just bought a used 1995 New Holland 716C snowblower in great shape. It had been sitting in a shed for the past 5 years and has very little use. It has a little surface rust. Any idea of what I should do to it before putting it to some good use? I do not have the instruction manual, so have no idea of fluids etc. thanks....

Does anyone know how much and what type of fluid for the transmission for the 716C snowblower? Also where and how to get to it? I would guess UTF, no? Thanks

I can tell you one thing that if you don't do you 'll be sorry. All the "surface rust" in the chute and impellor area has to be sanded down and painted smooth. Then coat with silicone or teflon before use. I didn't on mine and the snow jammed so bad it took hours to clean out. Sanding and painting when frozen was not fun. I'm sure the gear box will be happy with normal 70-140 gear lube.

I have a BX2750 snowblower that I bought new in 2003 and didn't do anything to it other than grease it every so often. I had been reading on TBN that others had discovered problems with factory assembled machinery, so I decided to take a look at my blower assembly. I took the covers off to reveal the drive chain and bearings and found that there were very few bolts or allen screws that were not loose. One bearing had backed out and somehow caught a piece of the collar and chunked it off, because the allen set screw was loose. I replaced that bearing right away and took the entire blower apart this spring to replace the rest of the bearings. I also applied locktite where appropriate. They are really pretty easy to work on and I will now pay better attention to maintenance. I guess my point is: It's worth taking the thing apart and ensuring that all is as it should be, before the snow hits. Dyer, retired

maybe keep some of the stock shear pins on hand in case you break one, you wont be looking for a nail or worse a hardened bolt that wont shear and might cause more damage if you jam something.

How do I change the gear oil on my blower? I'm not sure where the drain plug is.
