Kindly tell me what benefit one gets from a box scraper vs a regular 3pt blade?

I am sure that others will chime in here but allow me to start the process. They are different, and in my way of thinking, are for different things, but those things do overlap significantly.

I would say that 1)a box blade (BB) contains the dirt that you cut so that you can "carry" the dirt some distance; 2) a BB is generally heavier and with scarifiers so that it is easier to work harder ground; 3) because of the side-plates it is easier to regulate the aggressiveness of the BB with the top link, or at least the BB is more responsive [sensitive] to adjustments of the toplink.

I find that I use the BB when I have material to move, especially if hard ground, stumps or roots are involved to "rough it in" and then use the blade (with gauge wheels--some call them "training wheels") to smooth things out and produce a finished grade.

I made my implements and that is how I see them and their use.

Nothing bites worse than to have a new piece of equipment break. When I saw the construction I was amazed as others in how that happened. When I bought mine I can not imagine anything breaking it. I got mine when I purchase my tractor and it's an Armstrong Ag 6ft.

I had that happen with my "root rake" which is exactly like a box blade with rippers, except without the box blade. I caught a tine on something deep, and the next thing I knew, I wasn't doing anything with that tooth.
I beat the metal back in place and added a piece of flat bar to strengthen it. I wasn't surprised, pulling a class 1 implement behind my JD, which prefers class II implements.

Side walls hold the soil and allow you to move it.

Scarifier teeth allow you to rip up and loosen the soil.

Higher weight (normally) for better smoothing.

Side rails for controlled smoothing.

You can interchange them, but each has it's own strengths and weaknesses.

Owning/using both, I get a much better finished ground with the box blade...I have a 1,000 foot driveway and occasionaly I'll use the back blade to smooth it over but use the box blade when it's time to "turn" the gravel.

RFB, SORRY TO HERE ABOUT YOUR DILEMMA WITH YOUR NEW BOX BLADE. POSSIBLY WHEN IT WAS BUILT THE SUPPLIER SENT THE WRONG WALLED TUBING AND THE NEXT ONE WILL BE BETTER. I BOUGHT A MIDWEST 84" 4 YRS AGO FOR $400 AND HAVE NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS. IT IS MADE OF ALL 1/2" STEEL AND THICK TUBING. I PULL IT WITH A 50 HP TRACTOR ON A ROCKY SHALE DRIVEWAY 3/10 MILE LONG. IT WILL STOP THE TRACTOR IF I CATCH SOMETHING. LET US KNOW WHAT THE OUTCOME IS. GOOD LUCK. FRENCHIE

Frenchie, don't care what your wife says the all caps is very distracting and bad manners.

Dabear, Sorry I'll pay more attention to how the wife has "her" computer set up. She did buy the computer I just use it now and then. I have better things to spend money on (tractor attachments). So again I apologize for all the capital letters. (I love this site its great as are all of you guys & gals)
By the way I am a mechanic/fabricator not a computer/internet specialist and my cat keeps pacing between my face and the keyboard and I cannot see what i'm typing. Good day Frenchie.
