Hi,

Have any of you modified a Caroni 1900 flail (the one from agrisupply) to fit a Speeco/Harbour Freight/i-Match style QH?? I have a Speeco.

I just got mine yesterday and went to size it up tonight. On the mower the top link connection and the bottom links are about 4" too far apart vertically, even with the hook on the QH set all the way up. The bottom links are, thankfully, nicely spaced horizontally for the QH.

Also, there is a piece of metal below the top link pin that doesn't allow the hook on the QH to come up and under the top link pin.

Right now I'm thinking that I need to A: get rid of the metal that is stopping the hook from coming up and under the TL pin, and subsequently reinforce the TL struts to compensate, and B: move the bottom link connectors on the mower up ~ 4". I think it's better to move the mower's bottom links up, rather than the TL down, because the PTO needs somewhere to live in there too, and if the top crossbar of the QH gets too low it'll interfere.

I'd appreciate hearing it any of you have had any experience with this combo, or any other that are similar.

Now, do any of you offer free welding lessons???

Sure, but it's a long ride to Maryland:D

I have modified a few things to fit my I-Match, The latest thing I did was my 3PH chipper. I found it easier to make a adapter to lower the toplink because moving it permanently it would have gotten in the way for servicing the chipper. You can view the thread HERE.

Each situation is different, if you post pictures of the flail, and the QH close to it we might be able to give suggestions.

I would be happy to give free beginners welding lessons, and even supply the machine, provided you come to Florida to get them, and on my schedule. I even have a friend who can do the intermediate lessons, and can probably get my last instructor to give a few advanced lessons thrown in. However, the transportation and room and board will be up to you, so don't jump on the free lessons too quickly.
I went to a adult evening vo-tech school for my welding lessons, and it only cost me about $15 to register. They supplied the shop and rods, I just brought in the materials for whatever job I wanted to do. Cheaper than running my own electric bill up.

I really appreciate the offer, but if I'm coming to Florida it won't be to weld!!!

My father-in-law is a pretty good amateur welder, so I'm hoping that he'll be able to get me up and running.

Maybe I missed it but it appears you are only trying to hook up with the hook. Do you not have the adapter to replace the hook for the top pin connection?

Tried the hook, and the tuning fork thingy. Maybe I need to go back out and have a look with fresh eyes another time, but I couldn't make it work with the adapter either. The vertical distance between the mower's top link and the mower's bottom links is just too long to mate with the QH.

I did find this adapter on the Speeco site, and I'm gonna give it a try whenever I can get it here. I'm a little worried about anything that lowers the TL connection of the QH because of potential interference with the PTO shaft.

How about just some flat stock steel, get two pieces and drill holes for the pins. You may need to bend them a bit depending how wide the top link gap is, or is chain an option? Please keep us informed as I have been looking very hard at the 5' model. Any pictures would be helpful.

My worry with lowering the TL on the mower is interference with the PTO when the 3pt is lifted.

I was thinking of using some reasonably heavy flat steel with holes drilled to raise the bottom link pins though.

Next free time I have where I can get the Caroni out behind the JD I'll snap some pics. I'd suggest getting the Caroni whether the hitch fits or not, for the $$ it's great value according to most on TBN.
