JD 4700
I have a Question for you Markham owners. I have a JD 4700 with 460 FEL; will I destroy that new Markham LD grapple. I spoke with Melissa and she wants me to go up to their regular grapple ( 1/2 inch tines instead of 3/8). The extra $700 might take me out of the market. Thanks in advance. Ken

Welcome to TBN:D

I have one, and while I have not used it much-I can say you will be fine with the LD version. They over-build them for SSL use.

How big is that JD 4700 (HP & lift capacity)? I to am thinking about a markham grapple for my Kubota L39 TLB and was wondering the same thing about the LD grapple being durable enough. My Kubota is 39 HP and somewhere around 2200# lifting capacity bucket center to full height and some where around 5-6000# break out.

Your tractor is about the same size as my Ford other than you have 4x4. I have the 48" by Markham and believe me it's pretty stout. If you use it properly you should be fine. I've been using mine to dig up brush and no problem. If you go bigger you may have to worry about ballast in the rear because of the added weight. I by no mean have pushed mine to its limits because right now I'm using it without any rear weight, so the tires spin before I break anything.

I have the LD60 and use it on a NH T2410(TC-55). I do know I could destroy the
grapple, but the problem with the ss heavy duty grapples is the weight. A skid
steer lifts differently. Before this tractor I had a NH ls185.b, went back to the tractor.
Skid Steers have there place, but not in a muddy clay field or lifting
round bales (can't see whats in front of you).

I've got their LD60 on my JD 5105 and its more that capable of handling anything I've done so far. I would go with the LD grapple and have fun!

I don't have the markham grapple but I have one like it (WR Long OBG2 56") on a 50hp Kubota. I don't think your going to have any problems with the LD version.

Good Luck

I'm ordering a 60 inch grapple from Markham with 1/2 inch top tines and 1/2 inch outside bottom tines. The rest will be 3/8 and still reasonable weight. My tires are loaded and I have 440 lb rear wheel weights; and rock box if I need it. Thanks again for your input. Ken
