How best to mark hydraulic hoses

Bird, when only dealing with two hoses, like on the center link and tilt rams, make one hose female and the other male so they only go on one way to the SCV. When taking off and storing the these rams you can plug hoses into each other.

By the way Bird, how do you get the "blue" lettering on the point made on the previous post???

<font color=blue>I call the things used to keep a plastic bag shut "twisties". </font color=blue>

I wonder if twisties is a PA thing. We have always called them that, but I don't think I've heard it anywhere else.

Ed, sounds like you just shortened, or abbreviated, the name I'm accustomed to; twist ties (that's what closes the bread wrapper and a lot of garbage bags)./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Keoke, that works as long as all the implements you want to use also have both male and female connectors. In my case, I didn't even use quick couplers for my Top 'N Tilt because I never took it off or used any other implements on that valve.

<font color=red>Click</font color=red> on the FAQ <font color=green>at the top</font color=green> <font color=orange>of this page</font color=orange> and that explains it better than I can, and lists the <font color=purple>colors</font color=purple> you can use.

Here in florida... ( at my house anyway ) the things we twist around trash bags we call twist ties.. and the other nylon thingies we call zip ties.

Come to think of it, I've also heard them called "zip ties", so you guys have made me have to go out to the shop and look at the packages to see what the "official" name is, and darned if they ain't all labelled "cable ties"./w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

OK. Thanks to all the ideas, I have now marked my hoses. First, I used a Sharpie permanent ink pen to draw a diagram of my FEL control box hydraulic connectors on the control box cover. I numbered each circle representing a connector with a number 1-4. Then I used black (i.e. UV resistant) cable ties (zip ties, wire ties /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif) on the hoses, putting 1 on hose #1, 2 on hose #2, etc. Although the ties are black, I can easily see how many are on the hoses; even dim light is not a problem. As someone pointed out, I could even hook them up in the dark by feel, if I really wanted to.
Thanks to everyone for the ideas.
Ken

There's nothing wrong with marking them in braille, after all, they have braille markings on drive up ATMs. :)
