Blown gear box gasket on rototiller

Hey all,
My new (used) Agric amf-40 rototiller has a bad gasket on the drive-line side of the gearbox. Dealer says the part has to come over from spain!
I figured i'd just make a new one but don't know if paper, oil resistant gasket material is enough. It's not high heat, and not alot of pressure....
Do you think I need to use any special gasket material for this?
Also, is gasket width extremely important here?

My King Kutter 6ft tiller is practically new although i've had it a year but i've only used it twice. It developed a bad gear grease leak on the left side where the drive gears are (i think this is where you're talking about too) and I checked the bolts and they appeared loose to me. So I tightened them, leak stopped but then when I removed the oil inspection plug a ton of water poured out of there. Well, I knew then that I had to take the about 10 bolts or so out and remove the plate and drain it all and replace the grease. I did this and decided to put it in the garage for the winter out of the weather. I'm afraid that it was leaking on the top as well or that much water couldn't have gotten into it. The gasket appeared ok but hopefully it was just loose bolts, we'll see. I bought some Permatex red gasket makeer so if it does it again I'm gonna try coating both side of the gasket and maybe that will seal it. I didn't have any when I pulled it off or i'd done it then.

That does sound like a good solution.

Some of use might just use a high temperature silicon to form our own gasket.

There should not be anything special with that gasket. As you said, low heat and no pressure. I'd pull the cover and run a bead of Permatex to see if that will stop the leak before I made a new gasket.

If you need a new gasket take a piece of the old one to NAPA and make sure you get gasket material of a similar thickness, I've seen cases where gasket material that was too thin was used and it resulted in interference with the gears inside.
