I have a chipper shredder made by DR. I live a little over an hour from their warehouse. We thought it would be nice to have the shredder to deal with the little stuff. It is decent, but it would better to have a straight chipped because the pile grows pretty fast below the unit as the the chipper/shredder is a bottom eject. It functions great, just the pile builds fast. This was used on a Challenger 265B with about 24 PTO HP.

What do you have for a tractor, and what kind of wood will you be chipping?

I have a Super Apache chipper that I use on a Massey Ferguson 2310 (~ 23 hp engine; 19 hp PTO). This is an older unit that literally sat in the corner of a barn unused before I bought it, and it works great on pieces up to about 3"+. Except for pine, just about anything larger than 3" gets cut up for the wood stove.

Do a search for "chippers" in Attachments. The Jinma is very popular with TBN'ers, me included. I think you will find a wealth of information.

I have a Wallenstein BX42 and use it on a JD2520. Works great for the big stuff, up to 4 inches, however, I also have a small Craftsman 8HP chipper/shredder that is better on the small, leafy stuff.

If I was getting one now, and didn't have a separate shredder, I'd look at the new Wallenstein that also has a shredder built into it (can't remember the model number but it's on their web site and on the other posts on here somwhere).

To bad your not closer - there is a dealer in MA selling one pretty cheap - $1450 in central MA.
Used Bearcat Wood Chipper 3pt PTO Type - 5" PTO Chipper/Shredder - Model SC5540 (70554) with the optional blower. I spoke to the dealer and he said these retail for $4000 new. He said this one was in great condition.

I just picked up a 20 HP self powered Bearcat today for $1500 with only 200 hours on it and 3 sets of extra knives - model 73420 :)

I also have the Wallenstein BX42. It works really well if the blades are kept sharp, and there aren't more leaves than brush. Here are a couple of pictures of mine:

I bought a Bush Hog brand chipper/shredder about 10 years ago that looked very much like this model of Bear Cat - I'd guess they were made in the same factory, adjusting for the 10 years difference in models.

Mounted on my JD 870 it did a very nice job for me, but with some draw-backs that led me to replace it. First one was the lack of a chip blower - scrapping the chips out from under it every few minutes is a pain. I'd strongly urge going for a model with a blower if you have any volume of work at all.

Second was the huge task of getting to the chipper blades for sharpening. They need it pretty often from my experience, and on my old Bush Hog that meant removing a couple of dozen bolts to remove shields and the whole top of the hopper, which was just heavy and awkward enough to be a chore to lift off and back on. It's not clear to me from the photo that this issue still exists, but I'd advise being sure you know what's required to change the blades before buying any chipper.

I ended up buying the Bear Claw 4" chipper - see here - which is very well built, very conservatively rated at 4," and a joy to use. The blades are exposed for sharpening by removing a single bolt. One caution - it's not a shredder, so doesn't deal as well with masses of small branches.
