I converted the manual tilt to elect/hyd tilt because the manual jack that used to tilt the bed only tilted it about 1/4" per handle stroke. By the time I got the trailer tilted and 200 pumps later my arms were wore out. The elect/ hyd takes less than 10 seconds. H&H does sell the trailer I have in both manual and electric tilt, I opted for the manual because I knew I could convert it for half the price difference in the two trailers. Plus I used a larger diameter piston cylinder than their electric one comes with for safety.

I don't have a problem with the trailer jack but may consider going to an electric jack later. I have one on my camper trailer.

I store my chains in a 5 gallon bucket with the hooks hanging on the top lip of the bucket. I'm going to mount another box on the trailer for chains and binders just haven't found a box the right size or price yet. The 5 gallon pail gets heavy with 6 to 8 chains in it.

can't say anything about that winch specifically, but I bought a champion winch fram Sam's a few years back for my 600 lb 4 wheeler and it's been flawless. paid less than $100 for it and it came with roller fairleads.

I have been using a 10000 lb chicago electric winch on the front of my Kubota LA3031 for 5 years. I welded a rig for it and mounted on the bumper cage after cutting off the top strut. I directly connected it to the battery with a circuit breaker. I have the same battery that came with my tractor. Have had no trouble with it until yesterday, when I forgot to tie off the cable hook. I lowered the front end loader, which grabbed the hook and with one quick downward stroke removed the front of the winch. (the winch was very close to the back of the loader, I plan to fix that on the replacement winch. I purchased both the original (299.00) and the replacement (399.00) from Harbor Freight Tools - Quality Tools at the Lowest Prices Total price $399.00 plus 11.00 freight to Georgia. The package came with 100' of 3/8" of cable, roller fairlead, battery cables and mounting plate. You'll need to buy a 12V circuit breaker from autozone, pep boys, etc.


My old winch has assisted me in tying off and directing trees to fall in the right direction, pulling my stuck Kubota out, and many other faithful services for the last 5 years, and still would be there except for "operator carelessness".

It has assisted me in at least 50 large pine trees, keeping my tractor at a safe distance while coaxing the trees in the right direction. As you may know, pine trees sometimes have a will of their own when falling, usually changing direction in an udesirable manner, such as towards your house, unless they have a little outside guidance.



I also have one of these mounted on the front of my Massey-Ferguson.

Both winches and batteries have worked flawlessly. The Massey is about nine years old and I replaced the original battery last year.

What size breaker did you get for it? It looks like it would need about 320A on that breaker, according to the manual, at max pull.

I have a Warn that died, and it'll cost me about $120 to get a new motor off eBay. Even then, it'll be a cheaper motor.

I picked up the HF 8000 lb winch on Saturday. $309 - 20% = $247. My main use is to haul downed trees off the slope where I can get to them with the tractor.

Actually, I used a 500 amp bus fuse. I's never popped, so maybe it's too large. Also, I've stalled the winch once or twice, even tripped the thermal overload once.

I think I bought it from Allied Electronics or Grainger.

In any event, I've never melted a cable or exploded a battery. I always make sure to run the rpm's up to about 1800 (both tractors are diesel), just to make sure I don't drain the battery. The longest contunous pull I can remember was about 4 to 5 minutes.

While these winches are inexpensive, they seem to work well, and if they get beat up a bit as things do on tractors, I haven't lost a lot.

I have used other winches extensively on Jeep CJs and various pickups -- WARNs and Ramseys. I currently have a 15,000 lb Ramsey Patriot on my FX4 F350 dually pickup which is mounted removeable with a mount I fabricated. I made it where it could be unplugged and mounted on either front or back, depending on which way I get stuck. Considering this badboy costs $1500.00 +, I won't put one on my tractor. However, the 10000 lb chinese ones seem to do fine. In fact, I have one on the front rail of my flat bed trailer, with a WalMart battery box on the frame. I have a small conditioning weatherproof trickle charger which I keep plugged in to keep the battery in shape. The winch is used to load tractors, cars, etc. It's not quite so elegant a job as some I've seen here -- I just bag it up with a 10mil garbage bag and a bungee strap to keep the weather out.

All in all, I have been very satisfied with every winch I've used except one -- a Superwinch -- I plan to never buy another one of those. It was a 9000 pound winch and a pine tree resisted it a bit. The winch simply self-destructed rather than stalling.


Good luck with your new winch. Just get a good hook and a heavy hooked tow chain and you should "enjoy" many hundred feet of pulling. One piece of advice though, make sure you stand to the side and never in line with the pulling force. I broke a cable once, and it definitely sliced a number of things into parts as it whipped away from the winch.

Am I glad this is over. I think I have more hours moving this project out of my way in the garage, then I spent building it.

I finally finished my winch mount and box. I didnt think things thru on my first attempt at the hinges, so thats why the steel strip is on the front ( to cover up my mess) But it should be very durable.

I used a chunk of framerail from a freightliner for the mount, and all the tin was salvaged from my old stove/oven.

I still cant bring myself to spend the $'s on wiring for this thing, I also need new welding cables so im waiting for that perfect bulk deal.

That looks real good.
I had the winch mount added when they built my trailer, but the cover & guard is a great addition. I think I'll have to copy that.

I salvaged the grating from what looked to be doors from a crushed propane tank cage.
