I am trying to locate a moderately priced source of suitcase weights, for my BX 2200.
I would mount them in a bracket for front counterweight (300 lb), and also to add ballast to my box scraper & core aerator(200-500lb).
The farm tractor dealers in my area (Northern CT) have big weights, 100 lb @ $1.00+ a pound.
My dealer has standard kubota weights, $65.00 for 62lb.
I think you folks share my opinion that it is alot of $$$$ for a cast iron weight.
I have searched for old suitcase weights at tractor dealers, junkyards, and farms, without any luck.
Any suggestions for locating these needed but elusive creatures is appreciated.
I would weld up my own bracket, any weight make would be usable.

Thanks:

There's a lot of info. in previous threads about this topic. Here's one of the threads -Front Weights that shows a number of home made set ups. You can also do a search for "counter weights', or "Suitcase Weights" and you'll find the other threads.

Here is the part # off of the JD web site R66949. They are 42lbs. each and cost $32.00 each according to the web site. Hope this helps.

I bought suit case weights from my dealer. Bad part was, he only had green (JD) weights in stock. I then built a mounting bracket for the front of the tractor (BX 2200) that also acts like a bumper as well as a reciever hitch. (see attachment)

Walt, the bigger tractor salvage yards will have literally tons of them priced at much less than $1 per lb. Marshalls in Honesdale, PA has them. Their number is (570) 729-7117. It might be worth your while to see if they'll strap them to a pallet and ship by truck. I tend to use Yellow Freight since they have the closest terminal to me.

If the shipper specifies YES Discount on the freight bill (and uses Yellow Freight) you'll get a discount on the freight. If you do go that way check with Yellow first and find out what the charges will be. Otherwise you could get an expensive surprise if the shipper screws up.

Thanks for your suggestion. I found one such place in CT. but it did not stock any.
I will give them a call, and perhaps take a drive out there.

Thanks:

Will the bumper have to be removed if you wanted to add an FEL?

Walt, I don't know what part of Northern Ct you are in but I used to live in the Northeastern part and found a scrap metal dealer in Sturbridge MA that has very large slugs that are round and weigh from 50lbs up.They were cut with a plasma cutter so they are relativeley smooth. I used a couple of them to make a weight for the front of my 4100. welded them together and welded a hanging bracket and handle. I seem to recall that they cost me pennies a pound. wish I could remember the name of the dealer but it was years ago.
