New Holland TC 35(primary), MF 165, JD 40T,
I recently picked up a Sears and roebuck drop spreader #716 88
It is 8' and in pretty good shape especially for $100.
I would like to find some info on it especially the workings on the engagement on the wheels/axle, it freewheeels or you can flip a lever and put the axle in gear. Talked to my New Holland tractor guru and he said it was probably made by ezee flow or brillion. Any help would be appreciated. BTW no help at sears parts direct.

Any way of posting a picture? E Z Flow, Brillion, Gandy, and New Idea made the majority of those types of spreaders. (IH and Deere made also manufactured their own) One of us might recognize a simularity in yours and one of ours in a picture. I have a New Idea 8'er.

FWJ I'll see about getting a pic and also a pic of the hub.

Just an old KY boy!

Life's journey is not to arrive at the gates quietly, in a well preserved body.
But rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting " Hallelujah...what a ride!"

Finally got some pictures of drop spreader. Hope I've done it correctly to get them on the post. Farming with Junk, what do you think?

Probably made by AVCO/New Idea. Part of AGCO now. Parts may be available still through AGCO. Here's one I had. (Painted IH red, 'cause that's what I had on hand)

Thanks FWJ,
That sure appears to be the same. I also have about 3/4 a gallon of IH red on the shelf I was going to use. When engaging the agitator do you rotate the stud to the cut out or is that for traveling?
Ever been to Owensboro KY that 's home for me.
Thanks PJ

I can't recall which position is "neutral" and which drives the agitator. Mine is buried in snow and ice at the moment, so I can't go look.

I've been to Owensboro many times. They're digging out from the recent ice storm too. That part of the state got hit hard. We go through there on the way to the Evansville Indiana area several times a year. (antique tractor shows) Love to hit all the good BBQ joints while we're there!

That looks like a great deal for a C-note Peej. Will that work with drop spreading lime, and how much do you think it would hold??

I have a similar 8' New Idea spreader, but it has a different looking engagement device. I can rotate the agitators by hand if mine is disengaged but it takes a little effort. Mine handles ag. lime very well and it carries about 1000#(20 - 50# bags). I use it on my food plots. I think you got a good deal for $100.:):)
