CAT 2 implement to CAT 1 tractor

Read through the few threads that talked about this trying to understand. But, after trying it, still confused. My CAT 1 top link pin just falls right through the holes in the CAT 2 implement. Read a thread about using 3/4" pipe on both sides of the toplink ball. But, how does this keep the top link pin from falling out? Can't find a "fat head" CAT toplink. Obviouisly, I'm confused.

Depending on the pin, maybe washers at the outboard side, to keep it from falling out? Bushings to keep the pin from having too much slop might be a good idea.
One good thing about using cat II implements on a cat I tractor, is your not as likely to tear anything up, provided the tractor can stand the weight.

I'm thinking about welding in a piece of pipe in the holes so that the implement is effectively CAT 1. Seems logical given that I'm using CAT 1 draw pins anyway.

Definately need to use washers on each side.

I cut some sections of 1" pipe and welded into the holes today. Then ground them fairly smooth. I've ordered CAT1 draw pins with 1 1/8" threads. When they are installed it'll be a CAT1 implement. Still not there yet; need a longer top link pin.

Just go to your local farm supply store and buy the bushings that will convert category 2 to category 1. TSC has them and they are specifically made to convert from 2 to 1. I bought some and some spares the last time I was at TSC.

I have a couple of the bushings. But, aren't they really to adapt a CAT2 3PH to a CAT1 implement? A floating bushing isn't going help keep my toplink pin in place. The spacing between the toplink support holes is 3 3/4". So, I'd need two just to fill the space. And I would still need a washer. I am trying to stay away from the washer option.

I suppose I could've welded in pieces of the bushings instead of pipe. I had the pipe and I thought it better to cut it down rather than a perfectly good bushing. Besides, I need the bushings to adapt the CAT2 top link I just got.

Don't over-think this...Get a fender washer.. actually 2 of em.. one for the head side.. one for the lynch pin side... easy eh!
