Default Bush Hog 3210 Gearbox Leak (new unit)

Hello, Im new to this forum---but, can anyone give me advise please.

I bought a new BH 3210 Friday frrom a local JD dealer who also sells BH. It was delivered on a rollback within a few hours after I left the dearership. Today (Sunday) I decided to check it over and hook it up to my JD tractor and found that the RHS Gearbox was dry--not a drop. I felt thru the blade bolt hole in the deck and found that the stump jumper pan was loaded with oil.

So, now I know that there is a seal problem. The unit was bought new by the dealer and it has been sitting on his lot since APR 2008, about 9 months.

Today I sent a note to the salesman and told him about the problem. I indicated that I expected the seal to be replaced at no cost to me---even though it might require them to take the unit back to the dealership.

What should I expect their response to be? I have heard that BH sometimes will add a thick grease to gearboxes to stop leaks. Should I accept this as a cure.

The other two gearboxes on the unit had not leaked a drop, so a leaking gearbox is not normal.

    Thanks for your comments.

Your dealer should pick it up and replace the seal at no cost. Do not accept anything less. It is concidered new untill it is sold. Warranty starts when sold . I have read other post claming a 5yr warranty on gearbox. Good luck and keep us posted.

If your dealer is worth anything at all he should fix the problem, period. Accept nothing less. BTW, welcome to TBN.

Called to talk with the salesman this AM. He is in Texas taking a course this week. So, I spoke with the Service Manager, who was very understanding. The unit was loaded on a rollback and headed back to the dealer by noon. So far, so good. Jesse

    You learned two things today.
    1. The problem is being dealt with properly.
    2. The service manager handles service problems; the sales staff is responsible for selling.

Called service manager Tue PM. He said that they had pulled the blade and found that the seal had not been seated properly. They have ordered a new seal and will replace the old one as soon as possible.

    Sop far, so good.
