I am taking delievery of a 2009 JD 6115D tractor in the next couple weeks and planned to also purchase a Farmi JL-601 winch to log with. In talking to one farmi dealer he stated that putting that winch on a 100HP+ tractor may be a problem because the tractor may sit too high to allow the PTO shaft to remain near level when using the winch. I noted this winch is rated for 60 to 150HP tractors so I can only assume that there are many of them in use on similar size tractors. Has anyone got any experience with these winches on a larger tractor and how does it work? Thanks for any info.

Hello Bliz,

The 601 should be ok on any tractor with a Cat II hitch. The 601's pto shaft mounts at pin height and to the left of center - see attached pic. The side offset is actually more than any up-down offset you might have with a bigger tractor - and it runs fine. Another TBN member Nedly05 has a 601 he's parting with He's in northern NY so maybe not too far away? I know a bit about his 601 because I owned it for a few years. It was used on my neighbor's 75 hp Case - the prior owner had used it on a 90 hp Deutz. Farmi's brochure shows the 601 on "medium to big" machines. I didn't use it much so I traded it for other equipment. Last I knew the paint was faded but mechanically it was great. They are very rugged and simple.

Neighbour used a 501 on a Ford 7700 which is a fair good sized tractor. The 501 is a lot smaller winch too.
