Forks What are my choices for a Pallet fork attachment for 400CX loader?

There are many makes to choose from, like Wallenstein, Worksaver, CCM, etc. But, I would suggest looking for used, if your loader is QA. If it's not, then that would be the first step: make it QA skid steer compatible. I've seen plenty of used skid steer type ones going for half the price of new.
You can also get a 3PH mount, either plain or with hydraulics. The 3PH mount lets you keep you loader function while lifting more weight. Drawback is you can't lift as high. I just bought a used one with hydraulics (not easy to find used) for the back of my tractor. For my little tractor, it is much more functional on the back: twice the lifting capacity. (and I don't have QA either).

Yep... SS compatible will definitely expand your possibilities. All the construction type equipment manufacturers have their own line of pallet forks, etc.

If I were in your shoes.....
Go buy the JD Skid Steer Adatptor for the 400cx Loader (it was in the 300.00 ballpark for my 300cx) and surf around for a set of Skid Steer forks...
I had priced out a set of Brand New Bobcat forks....Carriage w/Brick Guard, and 48" 5500lb forks for $700.00 cash & carry at my local bobcat dealer...that was just by calling them, the exact words were "we got PLENTY, head on down and we'll talk" which I translated to "if you come in person with some greenbacks we can prolly do a little better"...
Ended up picking up a complete set of 5500 lb Caterpillar forks for $400.00
IMO going with the skid steer QA opens up the doors for cheaper attachments. If your not in a rush you can ALWAYS find buckets, forks, grapples, etc.. for relatively cheap on Craigslist....Thats why I had my tractor delivered with the SS QA from the get go and I've been VERY happy I did.
Another bonus with the Skid Steer attachments is If for any reason you ever change brand or upgrade/downsize tractors, pretty much most if not all the MFG's these days offer a Skid Steer QA....so all those attachments you've picked up along the way like Forks, Grapples, Rock Buckets, etc.. would all work on your new Kubota, New Holland, Massey, etc...

Might be a good idea about the skid steer adaptor, another benefit would be that any implement would be easier to sell since it's so universal, unlike the proprietary JD QA.
If you stick with JD QA, I've got the Horst HD3742 with 42" cast forks rated at 3700#, and think they are one of the best, I compared them to JDs and thought they looked better made, a little pricey at +/- $850. though.

Your suggestion for the skid steer adapter is dead on correct. It is really the best way to go and probably the cheapest in the long term. However, the OP probably already has the JD bucket for the JD quick attach FEL. JD should just abolish their system of carrier attachment for CUTS and get up to date with the rest of the companies. Universal Skid steer should be the choice for all CUTs and utility tractors. I bought the skid steer adapter for my JD3720 and my bucket had the skid steer plate on it - the way it should be!
The larger ag tractor companies have now all adopted the global carrier attachment system for FELs - even JD.

I wanted a set of forks when I bought my new tractor a year ago. JD dealer sold me a set of 48" 3700 lbs. Horst forks. He said they quit carrying the Frontier forks because they had too many bent ones returned. Said they had never had a set of Horst forks returned for any reason because the were better made. I have never seen a set of Frontier forks so I dont know how true that is.
Before the forks arrived I worried that 48" would be too long for my 790. After moving 60 - 70 fork loads of fallen limbs after an ice storm, loaded burn barrels in the pickup bed, etc. I am very happy with my longer forks. My forks were $650.

Thats no real issue...I see 2 ways to fix that...
A) Sell the JD Bucket...people are always looking for buckets...one setup permanently with teeth, the other not, etc...
B) Buy a Skid Steer QA "Implement Side" Blank from eBay or elsewhere for 80-120 bucks, weld it to the JD Bucket and Voila, you have a Skid Steer bucket (albeit light duty)
Which leads me to another point...if your into fabrication and modification the skid steer QA is way easier to work with...Local dealers here keep the QA Blanks in stock, eBay and other online retailers carry many versions of the slid steer plates for very reasonable prices.
