If it has dry fertilizer attachments, then it is most likely a model 290 (pull type), or 246 (3 pt). These are, in my opinion, the best 2-row planter for the small farmer, gardener, or foodplotter. Having that dry fertilizer ability is a big advantage over the cut down, more modern model 71 units which seldom have fertilizer capability (watch out for wise guys who try and pass off insecticide applicators as fertilizer attachments. You can tell this if the "fertilizer" hopper is smaller than the seed hopper). The seed plates for the model 290, 246 are the same as the 71's and can still be purchased new. As others mentioned, parts are available although sometimes costly. A working model 290 may be worth $300 - $ 1000, and a model 246 $500 - $1500 depending on condition. If it looks like all the parts are there but you are not sure that it works, $100 would be a good offer to start.
