2 bottom plow question

i'm with you.....i've been watching craiglist, auto search on ebay 125 mile radius, etc.....everything is about 350-550.......for some reason, i think they are worth about 200...

however, i really don't mind spending extra on something that will last a lifetime and probably outlast my kids.....

so, with all that being said, i keep hearing of all of these "replaceable parts".....what are they...i don't think there are that many parts after you count the frame and 3pt hitch on one.....

what should a guy look for in a plow...i know look at the points.....when i look at the used ones, i can't tell what they were supposed to look like if/before the plow point was worn out......

great thread!

and the comment about finding a reasonably priced disc!!! they are golden......let alone some hard to adjust, rough looking, babit style bearings......

i just want a good two bottom plow and a nice 6' disc that adjusts easily and is built well....

Ok, I'm Like FWJ I grew up on a small farm and was working my own acreage (50 ac.) when I was 14. Now the equipment sits in a pole building. 2 row planters, culivators, drag, all ferguson brand. 2 14" plow by case. a rebuilt to35 ferguson (brand new block, labor of love) sister has the to30. and I have the DC Case 1948 yet to restore.

SO what is this stuff worth. ....

In many ways priceless as it was either my Dad or GDad.

I'm amazed at the prices, may have to sell in this economy, or just start planting large gardens again.
Chuck.
ps to stay on topic the plot is in perfect shape and was put away 30 yrs ago all greased up

Hello:
I'm new to the boards but happened to see this post and thought I'd pick your brain. I bought a used Ford 101 spring trip 2 bottom plow. I'm just starting into farming a small 4 acre plot with a kubota tractor (gentleman farmer) so I have lots of questions. The Ford 101 that I bought, on it's first use, tripped one of the plows and will not go back into the locked position, it keeps tripping. I tried to tie a rope to it, put tension on it using a tree and still didn't go all the way back to normal. I've checked into used parts to completely rebuild it but I was shocked at what they are asking for a spring, trip arm, etc.. I paid $550 for the plow last year and was told I paid wayyyyyy too much for it. I'm now considering looking for a 2 bottom with shear pins instead of the spring. While the F101 with spring trips is prized, the trouble with this one has soured my thoughts about it. Any thoughts?

Did you try to snap it back in place by lowering the plow onto the ground and backing up? That's how mine works. Did you adjust the sping pressure, or clean and lube the trip mechanism?
The 101's are a good old plow, so I would try to get it working if you can.

We get calls every week from people who are looking for parts for the older 2 bottom plows with the 2 piece setup (point and moldboard) We cannot find parts for those type plows for years. Parts for the plows with 3 piece setup (points, moldboards and shins) are no problem. Ken Sweet
