Default Old JD Disk Info Needed

    Evening all,
Not sure weather to post this in attachments, or John Deere. Perhaps more will see under attachments.
Does any one have any information on this old disk? Guy I bought it from could only tell me that it was a John Deere KWA disk. From around mid 50? Said that it was the same as a KBA except that "W" was for wheel!
I have been searching and best I can come up with is a JD KBA, or KCA. No luck looking for KWA! And not much in way of info for either of the above. Hoping some one may have some experience with one like this one and can explain further.
Doesn't seem to be in too bad a shape, all there, and not too wanged out. Needs few new parts, some hoses, and new tires. Check and repack bearings, grease all zerts and should be ready to hit the dirt. This HD cylinder is new to me, and has a couple of things I am not familiar with. Hooked it up, and cylinder works fine, and no spray from the old hoses, so that is a big PLUS!
Just looking for what all you folks have to say. Your input is appreciated. Thanks.

Looks like a 8 foot KBA, I just bought a 7 foot this weekend. Look on Ebay or some other places and you can get a factory operators manual for them, they will tell you how to adjust everything and such. I believe the book number is OM-B25040.

C-bumpkin,Thanks! took your advice. I ordered the manual for the KBA. Looks the same to me, will see what the manuals tell me. your right, it is a 8', and it has 20" disk pans on it. Seems to have been used very little for a disk this old. I'm sure my rocky ground will work on it now though.
Is your 7' the same as this? I found information on the KBA with lift, and looks like they are all 3 pt lift disks. How did you come up with the part number for the manual? John Deere site is none to helpful. Know where I might find scraper blades for this? Mail Order? Have part number stamped in blade, so will go to the GREEEN store, and hope they can come up with somthing. Thanks.

It is a KBA I bought one a couple of years back and refurbished. Parts are still available, but yours looks more complete than mine was originally. If you need parts, I purchased from an Amish gent at Grofendale (sp) machine shop. No web site, but does have a phone. I can try to look up his info if you need it. He rebuilds this model jd disk for horse drawn Amish farmers.

Mine has 8 blades per gang, but I was able to pull it with my 36 hp Cub Cadet 4x4 diesel, but it gave it a real work out. Had to keep the radiator pre-filter real clean or it started to heat up quick. A little more hp to get ups some speed would have helped quite a bit.

It won't be a turning disk, but it will harrow the ground nice.

    Enjoy

dapper, You mentioned a couple of things on the hyd cyl were new to you. Does that mean you have questions there? One thing that would possibly be and looks to be on your cyl is a travel limit for how low the disk is set to limit how deep it cuts. This is similar purpose as stop on your 3 pth level so when you raise and lower it again you are at same depth.

dweitzel, thanks, Hope mine can look as good as yours someday. Man"DATS NICE". Lots of work to get it to that stage, but if I did, i don't think I could use it. Definitely need to go towards your way though. Thanks for the tip on the Amish gent. Will keep in mind, but I am trying my local first. He hasn't seen much of MY green, lately, and would hate for him to leave town. Even if he is the wrong color, when it comes to implements I am pretty much color blind. I will be pulling with the 3430 which is about 45 hp, so will see how this works.

Mr. 4300 did you say they work well from experience? Tell me more.

I did notice dweitzel, that yours didn't have the hyd. cylinder. Did it not come with it, or did you replace same? I believe some of them did not have the cyl. and I am not sure how they were adjusted.

Kthom, I do have a couple of questions about the cylinder. I hooked it up and the thing worked just fine. Now I don't know how it should work, but it did lift and retract with no problems. I have figured out that the large outer ring is to set the depth of the disk, by limiting the travel of the wheels, correct? Just move the disk in or out to raise the wheel, or lower. now question is what is the little rod at the top of the cylinder that the flat disk will push against? See pict. 2 Is this some kind of bypass for limiting the travel? Can you tell me any more?
Thanks for your help guys, and keep it coming. gotta get this thing ready for the spring thing....
