Now I am a proud owner of a box blade and have never used one... time for a stiff learning curve.

I relize I will need to just use it to figure out the best setup for my uses, the question is...

The box blade that I aquired has the hinged door in back... what are the pros and cons of the hinge door verses the standard version? Is one better than the other in different senarios?

Thanks for any input!

The questions that you ask are not new questions. The debate about the hinged rear blade has a variety of opinions pro and con. In short because it is hinged it will allow the front blade to get a better bite when you want to dig in, but it is harder than to spread the material by lengthening the top link and having the BB riding on the rear blade.

As far as learning to use it my main recommendation would be to use it. You will learn best by doing in this situation. I do recommend starting in a non-critical spot with lots of room. You can also read up on these threads for great information on the use of a BB and their capabilities.

Well that ought to be enough to give you some reading material and guides for your beginning practice. Have fun.

I have the old style (non hinged) in a 6' for the reason you state and I really like it but I want to get an 8' medium duty but it doesn't seem that anyone makes them. Bush Hog makes the old style in light duty blades (7' max) but not the medium duty.

Sounds like you have pretty much summed it up here in a short answer... also made note of locking down the rear blade for a better finish. Guess I will jsut need to get some seat time in lol

Thanks again.
