Land Pride grading scraper

Hi crazyal,
You've got about twice the horsepower on your Kubota that my old 8N has but like a said above I do sometimes pull a 6' finish mower with the 8N. Although I love the 8N, I am considering upgrading to something with a little more hp in the near future. Maybe something like Ford 2000 or similar. Kinda hard for me to justify the expense of a new tractor when all I use it for is to grade my half mile driveway a few times a year and mowing about 2 acres. But everytime I go to the dealer and see all those new tractors I guarantee Ima lickin my chops hahaha. The 4' won't be wide enough to cover my tracks whether I upgrade or not but the driveway will always be 8' - 10' so I'm figuring a pass in each direction will do it and hopefully put a little crown in the middle. Of course I'll prolly have to use my back blade to pull from the sides to get the crown since my understanding is that even with the angled blades the grader scraper isn't too good at making the crown, mostly just makes everything flat from what I've heard.
Unless you can get a good deal ordering a smaller LP scraper I would get the 6' model. When I was looking I couldn't find a LP or Woods scraper, even without the rippers, for the price of the Befco. I pull a 6' Befco behind my Kubota 4240 without a problem at all. Traction is the only problem I ever have and that's caused by driving over the loosened gravel while trying to pull gravel back up a steep driveway. Simply raising the 3pt just a little bit reduces the bite and how hard it pulls.

One thing I did is made a second set of holes for the frame the blades above the factory holes. This allows me to raise the blades on my Befco higher than the side skids. I think the LP can do it from the factory. This also reduces how much the scraper will pull on the tractor. Will you be getting a newer tractor in the future? If so will the 48" be too small?

I've never used a 8N but I thought I've read posts about 8N tractors pulling a 2 bottom plow. My 4240 may pull a smaller 3 bottom plow but I think it would be at it's limit. Based on that I would think that your 8N would pull a 6' grading scrapper. The nice thing about the adjustable blade models is you can easily adjust how hard they pull. Hopefully someone with more expertise with an 8N can chime in.

The nice thing about a 6' scrapper is it'll right about the perfect width for a driveway. Most are about 10' to 12' wide so it'll give you just enough overlap to make a pass down then back. I'll often spend time using the rippers to break up the hard packed gravel and then I adjust the side link length to pull the gravel to the center of the road for a crown. I'm sure I could have gone with a 7' or even an 8' scrapper but I didn't think it would have sped things up at all.

I just bought a cammond 7ft industrial grading scraper myself to grade my 500ft slag driveway. My tc40 new holland pulls it with no problems. My only problem is two days after grading my driveway still has dips in it. im just hoping its were the ground is settling because it was woods just two years ago.

browning,
Congrats on the new scraper. That thing is a monster, 800 lb+. Would be a strain for my old 8N just to pick it up haha. Plus the 8N gets real light in the front end with a heavy load on the back, especially pulling uphill. I like the TC40 also. Nice tractor. I finally ordered my grader scraper yesterday, a LP GS1560. Wanted the 6', felt the 4' would be better for the 8N so compromised with the 5'. Prolly should have stuck with the 4' but I have a 5' box blade the 8N pulls well and hopefully it'll do as good with the 5' GS. Been a lot of rain and snow in Carolina lately and my drive is gonna need some work for sure. Smitty

Some here may make the grading scraper sound like a magic drag-to-perfection attachment. It's not. The length of it makes grading easier, but you still have to manipulate it to make it work.

yea i figured that. I just have to use it more to get use to it.

I use the ripping shanks to break up the gravel. It helps when trying to remove potholes and leveling a drive that hasn't had work done to it lately.

If you are considering getting a 2000 in the near future I would go with a 6' then.

Any advice on using a Kabota B2620 for a RB 1560 to blade a fairly level drive (its in good condition now; but I've only lived here 3 months.) Thanks
