Trying to decide between a KKII 48" tiller for $1449 at TSC or a Woods 52" tiller from the tractor dealer for $1599.

I've read lots of posts about how much people love their KKII tillers, not so much about the woods.

The KKII is heavier and has more tines and is a bit cheaper, but will not be delivered with the tractor (Mahindra 2015hst) as is from TSC. I assume TSC doesn't sell them ready to work? I've heard lots of conflicting info about how much lube to add.

The woods would be purchased with the tractor and delivered ready to work, but seems like a lighter duty tiller and only has 4 tines per whateveryoucallit.

Who wants to toss out some more things to consider?

oh, and the TSC store is about 45 minutes from me.

Looks like your mind is made up? I have a Woods GTC 52 and wouldn't trade it for anything! I wonder why tractor dealerships don't sell KK equipment?

It may seem that I'm set on the KKII, but it'd sure be easier to have the woods delivered with the tractor instead of finding time to get down to the TSC dealer and pick on up. It also seems there may be some work to cut the PTO shaft and fill fluids accurately.

I guess I was hoping someone would push me towards the Woods and tell me that there's no reason why 6 tines is better than 4! I'm also not convinced that a gear drive is necessarily any better than chain.

I bet you TSC manager can pull out a %10 discount coupon from his back pocket if he thinks you're going to make a purchase. Woods is great, but is the woods' price for a chain drive or gear drive? I'll take a gear drive KK over chain drive Woods. By the way heavy is good for the tiller and putting gear lube in the KK is pretty easy task and nothing to fret about.

I'd go for the KK with 6 tines per flange, I've used both 4 and 6 tine tillers and there IS a difference. If it were the Woods with 6 tines and chain drive, I'd still choose the one with 6 tines, that makes more difference than whether it's chain or gear drive, with tractors the size we have, the chain drive is a non issue.

IMHO buy the woods from the dealer.I would think if you have any problems down the road the woods dealer would have more parts avaliable verses TSC.Have you measured across the rear tires of your Mahindra? What is the length?I think you will find the 52 inch tiller the better choice verses the 48 inch.coobie

I'd go with the King Kutter b/c of the fact that it has 6 tines per flange vs. 4 tines per flange on the Woods. And... it's gear drive, which I think is better.

Also... the only thing you should have to do is add 80/90 wt gear oil to the gearboxes on the King Kutter tiller. It's possible that the PTO shaft would need to be trimmed, but probably not.

The King Kutter also has a one year warranty.... and honestly... if anything is going to fail... it's probably going to do it within the first year.

Explain to me why you think the gear drive is better than the chain drive, just curious? There has been many gear verses chain drive tiller discussions on this board and the conclusion is one is not better than the other.I would also be curious what the warrenty is on the woods tiller?coobie.

So I went to the dealer today and found out the Woods tiller is the GTC52-2, NOT the heavier GT52 that I thought they were quoting me on. the GTC does not give the option to add more tines as the GT52 does. It would be $2050 for the GT52 with 4 tines. Now I'm leaning even more towards the KKII.
The dealer was pushing the woods because of the 3-5 year gearbox warranty. It didn't mean much to me as I assume that I'll generally have a problem in the first year, or I most likely won't have a problem until well past the 5th year.

When I seen my Woods GTC52-2 rip through the clay up here in NY for the first time, my jaw dropped! 4 tines....go figure. Gear drive VS chain? I just don't get it. Will you be tilling the state of Nebraska? ;) Hey, I'm just bustin your chops. I thought so much of my Woods tiller, I bought a Woods snowblower and backblade. Just my opinion. Go get your KK, what ever you get, It'll work just fine....
