Help with a plow?

From what can be seen the previous owner has kept part of the hitch up to the tractor system. Perhaps it was a custom type frame that also had other uses for him.

That piece that you see what was missing before. All the attachment points are there for the bottom links, top link and the threaded rod with the springs on it.

I was pretty excited, when I went and retrieved that piece off the Case, but when I got it home and to the plow...

...well that was a different story. It is NOT part of this plow, yet...

What you see as lower link attachment points were welded to that top link frame for the 'home brew' hitch system on that old Case.
The frame is wider than the plow frame.

Another question that I have regarding a plow of this sort:
Is it normal for it to be so far behind the tractor?
I'd guess (I haven't put the tape to it yet) that from the lower link pins to the back of the gauge wheel (I don't know if that's what it's really called) that it's about 6.5 feet long!

I think your right....that well could be a semi-mounted plow. At one time Ford and Massey were the only ones with the 3 Point hitch and implements. So, allot of semi-mounted, 2 point hitch (allis) and pull type implements were prevalent on other brands. I dont think that plow started out in life as a mounted plow.

Good Afternoon Henry,
Im kind of suprised that Farmwithjunk hasnt jumped in on this thread, but for what its worth, Im including a picture of an old Dearborn plow that I refurbed a couple years back mounted on my Massey 3pt hitch. Obviously its a different plow but maybe it will give you some ideas !

I'm betting that your plow is an International "Little Genius" without the wheels and mechanical lift clutch. I believe the tailwheel/furrow wheel gives it away as its almost certainly an IH wheel. One thing I don't understand is that the Little Genius plows normally came with "Plow Chief" points rather than the one piece shares on yours. Good luck with it! BobG in VA

That's a Case plow, sold to fit VAC's. ('40's model) There's a couple on our local Craigslist now. (One for $100, better one for $225) The VAC that plow was meant to fit didn't have 3-point.... It was a mounted plow, but not the "mounted" most are used to. You almost need to see one in person to get the entire picture of how it worked.

OK....Making a 3-point plow outta one that isn't....: Not THAT difficult if you understand plow geometry. Plow needs to sit dead level when in operating position. (one wheel in a furrow, plow 7" or 8" "in the ground") Center of DRAFT LINE needs to run centered on tractor. Wheels of tractor need to sit just in plow furrow and equal distance fron centerline on opposite side. SOME adjustment will be possible with tractor's linkage, but for the most part, the plow needs to be properly oriented to the tractor from the start. Then you build a SOLID 3-point hitch "triangle" .
