I can get a HF quick hitch for about $70 and thought it might be a cheap way to lift and skid logs. Thinking I could attach a chain or tongs to the top link or weld a hook on the cross bar. Not really worried about tweaking it a bit with heavier logs and just using it for that purpose, but don't want to completely destroy it the first day. Other similar hitch set ups for skidding would be $200-300. Searched the quick hitch threads and didn't see anything. Any thoughts? Thanks.

I bought a HF quick hitch too. After fooling around with it for a while and trying to convert my implements....I gave up and put PAT's quick hitch on. :) I couldnt be happier with the PAT's.

I thought I would do as you suggest for skidding trees with the HF quick hitch. I got a set of tongs from Northern Hydraulics and it should hook up to the top hook on the HF just fine. Although I have not used it yet.....I think it will work pretty nice (not bad for making a mis-cue on the HF hitch the first time).

Take a look at THIS post...and search the words "tongs" for others like it.
