Hi there,

I was wondering it NH TD5050 would pull 4 bottoms plow in a loamy soil.
Some fields have not been worked in 30-40 years.

Or should I just buy 3 bottoms to save money.

Thanks,
Peter

I believe that's a 62 hp tractor???

I pulled a 4-16 bottom with a 7700 - 85hp tractor. All it wanted.

Now I'm pulling a 4-18 plow (4 bottom, 18 inches each) with a 130 hp tractor, & it works much better.

I have difficult soils. Your milage may vary. 15.5hp per bottom??? Wow. Wish I could do that, save a lot of fuel. Good luck if you try the 4 bottom.

'Here' a good 3 bottom plow will sell for a lot more than an equal 4 bottom plow.

Tractor is listed as 80HP PTO, 93HP engine.

I don't trust the manufacturer's specs. I rather see an independent
(Nebraska) test to see the exact HP that goes into the ground.

3 bottom reversible (JD 975) is listed 2K less than 4 bottoms.

Maybe 3 bottoms will be more suitable to a 80HP (PTO) tractor?

Oh - 80hp - then a 4 bottom could work fine in better soils than I have. I tried looking up the hp on-line & took the first scketchy info I ran across...

Where I live plows are being sold for scrap & cut up, you can buy a 4 bottom JD 145 for $150 any day of the week. Can't see anyone paying $2000 for a plow 'here'. The smaller 2 or 3 bottom plows are more popular for the hobby folk with smaller tractors, so they will bring $500 or better. And folks with farms buy the 5-8 bottom plows so they still have value. But right 'here', 4 bottom plows are pretty much a dead market - too big for hobby, too small for real farming.

I would go with the three bottom but much depends on your soil. I am using a 4 btm IH plow behind a 140 hp tractor and there are many spots I would not want anything bigger. Even with a 4btm you feel like there is a lot of plow back there. Easier turning, more manuverability with the 3 btm.
