Grapple Light Duty Grapple

I took that to mean double TOP tines not bottom spacer tines.

That makes a lot more sense. I don't usually think of the top grapple arm in terms of "tines" but I hope you are correct. Double grapple arms on a 48 inch wide grapple is pretty rediculous but having spacer tines on the bottom to provide a 4 inch screen would be useful for small wood, brush bits and especially rocks.

I have a L4240 Cabbed Kubota with the LA 854 loader. Tractor weights about 4K plus whatever I have on the back. The loader is rated for just under 2K. I have a Markham 48" Light duty grapple with double spacer tines on the bottom. I've down right abused this grapple and she's a bit dented but for the money and what I've put it though, it's way beyond light duty. I can understand a 68 hp tractor needing more and I agree with that. But the only damage I've done to the grapple has been my own fault and due to handling way to much concrete with it. Now I have R4 tires so I probably don't have the traction some do for pushing trees or uprooting but I really think you'd be fine with the light duty. Most anything big enough to damage the grapple we can lift. Here are just a few pictures of some work with it. That was a 10" Hackberry, and my pile of bulkheading material I'm moving. I've done alot more with it but the wife wasn't around for pictures.

She was referring to the arms. I'm only repeating what she said (showing my beginners knowledge I suppose)

I've read a few posts about the Markham LD grapple.

Anybody got any real life experience as to just how "light duty" or rather what the upper limits of it's capabilities would be?

I've got some rather large trees that have been down for a few years due to hurricanes Katrina and Gustav and more recently the blizzard of 08. (8 inches of snow in SE La)

I'm trying to determine about what length I would need to cut them up in order to not overload the grapple. Or maybe move up to the larger grapple? Is the LD grapple more suitable for brush?

My FEL is rated for 2500lbs

I bought the extreme duty grapple in a mini size. You can find it on the Markham web site. It looks bomb proof and weighs the same as the mini grapple.

I haven't had enough time to tell if the narrow width is going to be a problem.

As far as weight, an 8 ft section of 24" oak weights alot less than a scoop of dirt. You will be supprised by how much less wood weighs than dirt or rock.

My LD48 arrived tuesday. Due to rain yesterday I didn't really get alot of time to test it out. I did move one pile of brush and it works much better for that than the bolt on grapple on the bucket.

Are you getting a WR Long electric over hydraulic valve? It really works well. Also when you install this, buy some abrasion resistant sleeve to encase the long hydraulic lines from the valve to the grapple quick connects.

Hope this helps. Keep us informed on the progress. I love spending somebody else's money! Seriously, I know you will be pleased with how it works.

Well, I placed my order. Should ship Monday or Tuesday.

Hope things go well. I'm ready to do some clearing.

I'm looking at the Markham LD grapple for my JD 790 with a JD 300 loader (recently acquired...). I am ignorant about the hydraulics - there are only the four lines to the front... do I need a fifth for the grapple? and how much trouble is it to add? Thanks

Not only a fifth..... but a sixth too !

If you use the search function, the process has been covered literally hundreds of times.

Search for: grapple, third function, diverter, W.R. Long, and/or 4 in 1 for hours of reading on how to power a grapple.
