    Default Score!!!

    Hey Guys,

I'll get photos up in the next day or so, got four JD 71 planter units today. The guy raised his price $25 each after giving me a price on the phone and asking me to make a offer, I told him I had to see them first. People left calls all weekend wanting them so he raised hit prices. We were the first there so we got our pick of the cans and units. These 4 came off the planter he used last year, we had to help take them off but no big deal.

Now I've got to build a planter bar for them and the attachment points.

    Been a busy week here,

I've got the units in the shop and I am going over them, I've got a few small parts I'm changing and then we will paint them up. I'll get my metal this week to build my tool bar.

I'm going to do the welding on this job no matter how much my wife laughs at me. So far all the parts look in good shape, I'm working on making this a three row planter with 36" spacing between the rows so it's easier to go back with the tractor and do cultivating.

The units don't look like much here but they are in good shape. The day we got them we helped take them off the 12 row toolbar that the farmer used last year. He was only selling these units because he got a new planter.

    Morning dirt,

We are going to plant about 3 acres of field corn or soybeans, then we will also use it for our sweet corn, peas, beans in the garden. My neighbor said what ever we put in he will combine for us.

We've been reading up on doing the corn, corn, corn but I'm not sold on it yet. I'm hoping that what ever we put in we'll make enough to pay for each years diesel supply that we use. Not much but enough to help out.

I have been looking for some 3pt hitch planters myself. I have 2 four row tow behind planters that I have been using and thinking about coverting but hate to ruin a good planter.

I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

    Also why a 3-row and not a 4-row?

    Hey JDeerekid,

If I go with a 4 - 30 inch rows that puts the inside two rows just in under the tractor tires and I don't like to compact the ground that I'm planting in. Also a 36 inch row will be easier to cultivate with the T2220 and the 7 1/2 cultivator I have.

It will also make it easier when we are planting sweet corn to walk down the rows, also the unit will be small enough for me to strap down on a pallet and put up on a pallet rack we are putting in the shop this summer.

After reading this post I had to laugh at myself. You see, I was jealous as soon as I saw them. I am new to planting and am about to plant 3 acres this fall and next spring. I only have a single bottom plow right now. I am about to get a tiller. I am afraid I will be planting by hand for the first season.

    Hey Texan,

There is a corn planter on E-bay from down your way right now. I won't get a crop in this year, we still have some clean up to do in the north field where we pulled out 100+ years of cars and stuff.

I've got to extend one field into a ditch where they built up the driveway along time ago. So this year we will fill in the slopes of the driveway and fill in some low spots in the yard and I've got 7 stumps to dig out. Everything goes good we will be ready to final prep for next spring.
