Hello

I just bought an older Lorenz Snowblower for the 3 point hitch of my TC25D. Everyone says that this unit is good for busting up stiffer snow with its paddles. Who has one? Anyone have a video of the unit blowing snow? I heard of a modification from a guy at Lorenz that will allow it to blow farther and plan to post the details of it once I find out what the modification is all about (he did not have the details but knows who does and gave me that guy's name). I will call him Monday. Probably related to a chute modification (interior teflon spray coating- like a paint) and adding rubber paddle extensions to the fan blades. I will find out Monday.

I called Lorenz and they sent me a manual and new warning labels. Good people. Cleaning it up a bit, brushing off the rust and spray painting it now. Just don't get to run it until next winter.

I've been using one of those for about 10 years so far, and it works great in most any sort of Montana snow, except maybe spring slush! The chute turning electric motor died, but I don't have to adjust it much for my access road, so I just rigged it so I turn it by hand. Also, the shear bolts are easy to get to and replace as needed. The only hassle is that running the JD790 is low range reverse is pretty slow.....and after a couple hours of twisting backwards my neck doesn't want to straighten out!! But it does a great job on frozen crusty snow and ice, so I can't b--ch...

Interested in the chute mods you mentioned....

My New Holland has the ability to tilt the seat at an angle but I have never done it. Tried moving it once and it would not budge. In any case I will just sit sideways, probably run in low range and hunker down for about an hour to clear the 550' of driveway. Thanks for the response. I paid $1000 for the unit but it is older and in good shape by my standards - had to bend back and reweld two paddles that had hit something hard. Changed the oil on the side Curtis gearbox, will replace the chains and readjust the tensioner which is at its full displacement right now. Everything else looks great. Now if I could just find a vinyl cab for my tractor - inexpensive one. Maybe someone upgraded to a hard cab and will sell me their old one? Either a cab or wear goggles like in my avatar :).

I blew a s#!tload of snow last week. The cold powdery stuff goes 15 feet or so. The wet stuff goes like three feet.

I am happy with the unit. btw - make sure your cutting edge is angled slightly against the blacktop (if you have a paved driveway).

Am planning to post a video to this forum after the next storm.

Regards,

Cliff

One other thing.

The Lorenz modification I spoke of earlier was cutting and straighting the chute but I am not going to bother with that. I have, however, sanded, painted and sprayed PAM in the chute to get it to throw even further.

I have a Lorenz model 530 66" i dont know the year, i got it used $600.00.It was like new still had the paint on the fan.I had trouble with shear pins breaking to easily & ended up drilling the hole out & useing bigger bolts now it works fine.I can blow snow out to 30' half that distance with wet snow.It does work well,i have video but cant post it 8mm tape. When i get snow to blow i will take video with my new digital camcorder & see if i can figure out how to post it.
