I found a reasonably priced post driver but it was setup to mount on a FEL. The guy would take the bucket off and slide a pipe though the bucket mount and the pipe on the post driver. He then had a single tilt cylinder so he had a big screw eye in the one of the holes going down the center. He could then tilt that thing any angle he wanted. Well I wanted to put it on my 3PH so some modifications were in order. First I need to mount pins. well the holes on the side plates were 3/4" not the 7/8" I needed. My first thought was to mount my benchtop drill press to the side plate and go at it. You can see how far I got before the drill press gave up.

well J_J had the idea to weld the pins on. So that was the next step. I probably shouldn't be showing pictures of my welds. I will be checking them periodically when using the driver. I hope they hold.

Then came the top link mount. I found an old draw bar that had just the right size holes on either end. I took a sawzall to it and a grinder to clean up the rust. I then clamped it to the center support and tacked it on. then the mistake happened. I took the clamp off pulled the pin out of the top and proceeded to finish the welds flipped it over and welded the other side. So all you welders know what happened. The pieces moved just a little with the heat and the pin would no longer go through. Fo once a dremel tool came to the rescue. I carefully ground out the holes a little and the pin fit once again.

Do you have a FEL? And if you do why would you want a 3 point?

Here is a final picture on the modification. Now I just need to figure out how to stand it up so I can attach it to the tractor.

Bill,
Yes I do have a FEL. These things shake a lot and I was worried about the FEL on my little tractor getting shaken apart. Also I have dual tilt cylinders so it would be more work to modify the attachment to my FEL than it was to the 3PH.

I'm not getting the full picture. How do you apply downward pressure with your 3 pt?

I have the same question. With a posthole digger....the auger pulls it down. What will drive the post into the ground? The three point only lifts and gravity pulls what ever is attached toward the ground.

I think there is a hydraulic cylinder to provide the down pressure. Otherwise, what are those two hydraulic lines for??? If it were stood up, and you could see it from the rear, I think it should be a lot clearer how it works.

A heavy weight is lifted hydraulically and it is then allowed to fall on the post. Repeated cycles hammer the post in.
