The Yetters are $1,500, but considering how much the used JDs sell for, resale value, cost of other 3 pt gear, and how useful and well built these are, It's not too too bad.
It's great to find some folks knowledgeable about these. A couple of questions...
I'm trying to use with long slender snap beans and I'm using the B8-24. Does the bean have to fit in the plate cell (laying down horiz and parallel to the cell) or if they're too long for the cell, can they fall thru vertical (perpendicular to the cell) ok?
Do the same number of seeds pass thru regardless of speed?
Even with a 20 gear in the back and 14 in the front, I'm not getting enough seeds. Can I use a larger in back and smaller in front, or is there some point where it wont feed correctly? ... I see a warning about max MPH in the yetter manual.
I haven't used a JD/Yetter, but I've used a few plate planters.
You can mix the gears up any way you want to get the seed drop to where you need it.
Different speeds of driving will affect your seed population. It would be rare to accept going over 5 mph, and if you have a fast plate speed, you might need to keep below 3 mph. Typically getting over 4.5 mph gives you poorer seed placement.
With unusual seed dimentions, you just have to test it & see. I'm not quite visualizing your snap bean issue, but however they fit - plant on the driveway in the packed gravel, mark off a couple feet, and count the seeds. Look at how evenly they were placed. The seed will be on top of the packed gravel, easy to count. Look if any odd shaped seeds got damaged.
