Tell me if this would look ok. Honest guys. It is to scale.
I have a friend who will give me this cab for $200. With lights etc. but it will need to be cut and fit, cleaned up, painted, etc.. It is heavy so I will have to weld up some brackets - 4 main bolts would hold it on. Loader could still fit. ROPs will fit under cab. What do you think gents? I would also have to add some rubber to get the area around the cowl sealed up. The real question is...is it too big? It looks about right but I just don't know. I will need some protection for snowblowing. Thoughts? Concerns? Also, it has a width exactly the same as the fenders. How about the price?

The cab was off a hundred horsepower tractor and would probably handle a roll over. I think in all reality you might hurt the value of the tractor to do your conversion.

I say go for it,. Using that cab you have a great starting point. Your going to have to do some fab work , to get it fitting around the fenders and engine cowl areas. You might also have to take a section out of the rear part of the cab because it looks too long. Its hard to say exactly whats needed until you do a trial fit. But its only sheetmetal :D

Sandblasted and with a coat of quality paint, it will look great.

Honestly, I wouldn't do it with my tractor. A poster above mentioned the value of the tractor and it would be negatively affected by such a patch job. Besides, if you're just looking for a wind-break in the winter why not just find a canvas/plasic cab kit for seasonal work and be done with it. Might cost more but it would be much more appropriate.

Besides all of that, an Oliver cab like that will weigh a few hundred pounds and could change the way your small tractor handles in less than ideal conditions.

Guess I would be worried about how much it will change your center of gravity. If you are on flat ground it might be ok. Wonder how much it will affect your performance carrying 3 or 4 hundred extra pounds. Creative idea, hope you will document it if you decide to do it.

My thought is I only put on in winter for blowing snow. Then---with a pully system and chain lift it off and lower it onto the barn floor in spring. I would never let it's weight sit on the plastic fenders or hood - only weather stripping with no weight. It would bolt to a rear bracket made of 1/8" steel (mounted to fender bolts and extended out to just behind the rear fenders. And it would also bolt to 8" steel bracket that extends over foot rests on each side. So nothing permanent and nothing hurting the Boomer.

Thanks for the feedback folks. Anyone ever done this? Retrofit an old cab?

I have been thinking about doing the same thing except for my Bolens G274 from JD 401 cab. I think I would have to remove my fenders for the cab to fit and the bottom of the cab would need to be narrowed to fit my tractor.

I agree with you about being on an open station tractor while blowing/pushing snow isn't the most fun thing to do. I suppose you could weld some sort of hoops on the top corners to be able to lift it off for the summer.

Keep us posted on what you decide.

Actually there is already two lift points at the top. Take a look at the attached. Tough decision. PVC scratch built unit that is light or this thing.

PVC it is! It will be colder and louder but will be lighter and easier to put on and off. As much as I want to retrofit it.......

Found 4 pieces of Polycarbonate on Craigslist. The PVC cab project will start in a couple of weeks.
