Been,

Thank for the advice. I am not going to store manure in the spreader. We compost it behind the barn and then spread it on the fields when mostly mature. I use my FEL to turn the piles over every couple days to keep it composting.

The spreader is in fairly good shape. Wood sides have a bit of wear, but will last longer. The chain and bars are just about rusted out and will need to be replaced soon. Another reason why I would like to identify the make and model. I know I can get a replacement chain/bar set up without knowing the manufacturer, but it would make me feel better in the long run.

My wife has informed me that I am not do do ANYTHING to the spreader (as far as breaking it... er... um... fixing it up) until the 30+ tons of manure behind the barn are spread. So, I have some time. In addition, my honey-do list is now officially 27 items which makes the spreader number 28.

As far as driving too fast... Well, I'll just have to try to keep my speed down (not an easy thing for me to do). The first time I used it, I was pretty much going full power in Medium. It spread the manure very well at that speed. But, if I am going to damage the sprader at that speed, I'll just have to spread in low range.

Looks like either a J.I. Case or an Allis Chalmers. The lever mechanisms aren't typical of McCormick Deering (AKA IHC).
