I bought one of the infamous Quick Hitches about a year ago, but after not fitting any of my implements I returned it. The upper hook bracket protruded too far not letting the hook into the upper link or the hook would not adjust far enough up or down. More to come.

So after about a year and following threads here and purchasing the brand sold here. ( Pros and cons ). I still wanted a true Quick Hitch. So I finally had an idea, scary and a longshot, but lets try. What was the problem, the hook couldn't get to the top pin on my implements. So, we have to get it there. I took a piece of 1" x 1-1/4" CRS bar stock and welded it to the hook after making a wood mock up.

After welding, I had to machine it flush with the existing hook and mark some holes. I put the QH on the tractor and backed up to each implement and marked holes on the wood mockup to locate what was needed. The holes would be the same spacing as the bracket of course but offset approx. 1/2". This made it possible in theory to work with everything.

After boring the holes, a test fit seemed to work, so I primed and painted. Maybe I should have tested under load first? My thought as I was cleaning things up. Oh well, I hope this wasn't a waste. Actually good fortune for a rare time. It fits well on everything and if it pulls the disc, which it did, I think it will be fine. It is really nice to have a true 3Pt. Quick Hitch that fits standard and non conforming implements. (At least all of the ones I own). I don't think I will use it on my "Bush Hog" finish mower, so I can keep the flex on top, but other than that I don't have to get out of the cab for even the top link now. I hope this will help some of the other people in the same situation. It was really not a major project but it bears major fruit to me at least. Gene

Thanks suncoast for all the detail. I have the same QH that I have sawed and grinded and spit on with little success in getting the top link to catch anything. I even bought the top link adapter, but it did not help much. I may try your idea and see if it does the trick.

Most of my issues are the implements. The frame on my KK tiller is too close to the lift pins. I cut the hooks down on the QH so they would slip between the pins and the frame, but you have little tilt ability on the top link before the hooks bind on the frame.

Nice work Gene!!!....and well documented too. You might be able to sell a few bushels of that conversion. ;)

That seems like a good solution for many of the problems I had with the HF quick hitch (which I took off and installed the Pats). When I looked at the John Deere hitch, I saw that they had this sort of spacing for the hook too.
One thing though: I hope your a good welder.......there is allot of pressure on that link....especially with a heavy implement like that disc.

Too bad the OEM cannot execute a solution like this.
