I am looking at a Cole Multiflex no till planter with duplex seed hoppers . Is this a good planter for sweet corn ? Other veggies ? Are plates still available from Cole ? The planter is in good shape .They want $2500. for it . Is this too much for a 2 row planter ? Would I be better to buy something else to plant sweet corn, ( 71 flex or JD 7000 units ?) .I am using a JD 290 , but I am tired of having to fix it all the time . I have a precision push seeder to plant small seeds .Thanks Tom

If the unit is a 12MX Planter parts are still available, but if it is a poly hopper multiflex unit at present no parts are being built for them or have been built in at least 10 years. The units themselves work very well and were used extensively in the 70s 80s and early 90s.

I purchased a used one row Cole 12MX last spring. I planted corn and pumpkins with it. It came with all the gears, the small corn plate, pumpkin plate and cucumber/squash plate.

I was really happy with the pumpkin hills it planted. The corn was a near perfect spacing of 8". The only problem was it often dropped two seeds instead of one and I had to thin some rows. I think a different corn plate may have corrected this. The fertilizer side dresser worked like a charm.

I did take the Cole planter apart because it was all seized up when I got it. It is a very simple planter and really easy to maintain. There are very few Cole planters in my area of Ontario. No one around here ever seen one before I purchased mine.

I recently added a John Deere 71 but will be keeping the Cole for the pumpkins and will try the 71 for the corn next summer.

$2500 for a two row planter seems pricey to me. Is it new or used?

Here is a link to Cole's web site. Funny thing is they do not even list the available seed plates on their site. There is a listing of seed plates in the downloadable Owner's Manual. I have no ideal if they are available or not.

Anyone ever figure out the reasonable price for a Cole 2-row 12MX planter? I have one with fertilizer attachments and maybe 16 seedplates and in mint condition. I am thinking of selling but unsure of the price guys have seen. Any info helpful.
