Rotary Cutter vibration in bush hog help

Wow. About the only thing left they didn't check is whether or not the output shaft was bent. But since you've already made up your mind to get rid of it, it's probably not worth pursuing any more

I would like to make sure that you do one thing before you sell it....MAKE SURE the blades swing EASILY before giving up. I had a King Kutter mower (new) that would really vibrate when I mowed with it. I learned on this board that you may have to take a wire brush (or wire wheel on a grider) and take off all of the paint/dirt that will build up under the blades at the pivot point on the stump jumper. The blades NEED to be able to swing around freely (I even put some grease under the blades where they attach). After I did this, the mower had NO vibration and before I did this the mower would shake the whole cab. When one startes the PTO up the blades will fold in on the stump jumper and unless they can swing out easily again, you will feel vibration. Even if they can swing ALMOST out straight - unless they can swing all the way out and balance each other out - vibration will be noticed. Just my 2 cents learned on this board.

Thanks,
DW

heres an update guys, i tried the mower this morning on my tractor, and there seemed to be a big improvment. the blades and mounts were all good when i had them checked at the dealer, all the shafts seemed to turn true, and u joints in pto yoke and bearings were fine. like i said in the previous post, the only thing we could find wrong was the stump jumper pan was a little loose, and we retightened the bolts. I used it this morning, and the vibration was considerably less than what it was, at least, acceptable i think. guess i will keep using it through the summer, and see how it goes. this is a great site, with a bunch of great guys, who are really great about sharing their knowledge and experience, and i for one, think it is fantastic. This is the first tractor i have ever owned, and this site and the guys who visit it, have been a tremendous help to a newbie, like myself, and my hat is off to you guys. thanks again

Did you or the dealer check the stump jumper for dirt dobber nests? If you get a couple of real big ones on 1 side, it can throw it out of balance. Just a wild guess, because everything else has been checked.

The most likely "invisible" problem is probably the main shaft. All it takes to cause vibration is for it to be bent ~1/4". It's hard to spot while running, and even hard to check by hand rotation because the baldes swing.

I have a 6ft Landpride rotary cutter. I noticed that it's been vibrating more and more lately, but couldn't figure it out. I did notice that my oil was disapearing after a days use, so that's been my main concern. I added grease to the gear box and more oil, but the shacking has gotten worse. Then while looking under it at my blades, I discovered that the bolts that hold on the gear box are loose. With the PTO shaft connected and it in a resting position, I didn't notice this, but with the mower up in the air, it was obvious.

sorry to mislead you it's difficult to gauge the amount of shake on the internet. my squealer has nothing wrong with it serviced it this spring everything moves freely geased and case has new oil. everything tight shaft appears to be straight tractor still vibrates some but not much when first started until the blades swing look out.
