Bush and Bog Harrow

I'm trying to create a field. I have bush-hogged down all the small trees in the area and I was told that I needed a heavy "bog" to pull around to chop up the roots and debris and turn up the ground.

I found the following for sale.....Is this what I need? AND is it a good price?

HI,

THat Harrow you have there is designed for breaking up clumps of soil AFTER land has been plowed with the old style one or two (Or more ) bottom plow. If you look around I bet you can find such a plow for your 3pt hitch for cheap as most folks have switched to rototillers, BUT I don't know if your initial plow job will be successful if you are trying to reclaim woodland. You may need to have a dozer come in with a ripper (a big plow)first to get all the stumps (and big rocks if your land has never been field before), and then use your plow to rip up and turn the soil and then that harrow to break up the clumps. If your trees weren't to big or too many you might be ok skipping the dozer and just getting a 2 bottom plow and working with that and your harrow there.

HOw big is your tractor? That looks like a small harrow for an old IH cub or something similar. If you have a 4 wheel drive 20-30 horse machine it could be perfect matched with a 2 bottom plow, If you have a bigger machine you may wish it was bigger. IF you have some acreage that you are looking to improve it could be a smart purchase.

Don't know about the price but if your tractor is big enough to pull it with some weight on the disk give it a try. You should be able to use it if you try other methods .
