When buying a attachement. to hook up to a PTO. What PTO rating do you use. My tractor is a 23 HP MF. The rear PTO is 18.5 HP. Looking to purchase a meteor snowblower.

The 51" recomended HP of 15
The 60" recomended HP of 20

So if i am reading what the manufacture says i should purchase the 51". This way i am sure to have enough power for the attachemnet. Am i correct?

Thanks Scott

PTO rating for the attachment is the way to buy implements. If you can't drive the implement with enough power it wouldn't be working at full efficiency. Or it may work your tractor too hard. At least that is my understanding. I just have a 6' box blade to drag around and a Post hole digger that I haven't used yet. Other voices of reason may chime in here at any time. So stay within the rated PTO power for your tractors health I would think.

It's a very subjective measure. I would think you could run the 60" without too much problem, but if your tractor is not running at peak efficiency or it's tired, it might struggle. You might have to run in a lower gear. Might as well buy the 51". Nine inches is only about the length of......
well, anyway, you'd probably do fine with the bigger one, but make sure the dealer will allow you to return it for the 51" just in case.

When they give you the horsepower ratings they are figuring on a full blower. A hydro is a nice thing to have as it leaves you flexible on your ground speed to make up for a little bit under on horsepower.

I'd make sure that it will cover your wheel tracks with a few inches to spare on each side.

With 18.5HP, I would definately get the smaller one, unless you don't get much snow, or worse YET, WET snow.

You will hate it if its bogging out all the time.
