Sickle Bar 3 pt & pull type sickle mowers

   / 3 pt & pull type sickle mowers #12
I thought if I can run the sickle off the back of my cab tractor at a 90 degree angle to the ground, I could use it almost like a giant hedgeclipper to keep the brush from overgroing the field. Sitting in an AC cab would be a lot nicer than taking a beating from the weedeater. I also know there's demand from other neighboring properties for this type of work.

The one I'm looking at is the NH 456 pull type with hydraulic angling on the sickle bar. Does this model sickle bar work at a 90* up as well as flat and angled down?

The 456 will give you about 30 degrees like FWJ says. I've never tried to lower mine below horizontal and with the hydraulic lift, I doubt it would go very far. It's for cutting hay fields.

I suppose you could rig it to cut vertically but then your cutter bar would be about the centerline of your tire. You'd need to really offset it to do what you want. All the county guys around here use the Alamo rotary side cutters on the brush and trees: Alamo Industrial: I've seen a few on Ebay.

If you're planning on doing hay in the future and find a deal on a 456, grab it. They last forever, easy to operate/maintain, and they give a nice clean cut.
