Does anybody have any experience using a wide row two row corn picker on 30 inch rows? I am looking at a New Idea Pull-Type. I know they say you're not supposed to, but I've talked to one farmer who said it worked all right for him. Thought I'd get a few other opinions.

You are going to have a lot of ears dropping off the stalks and onto the ground before they get into the snapping rolls.

What width do you call wide row? 36 inches or 54 inches or something else? If say 36 or 38 inches you probably will be ok, if wider think two row is out. At worst case you should be able to pick one row with it at the time going from the outside in and be fine.

If you knew anything about the machine in question you would understand it is built for 38 inch rows and works very well on 36 inch rows, which are considered wide rows in field corn. If the OP wanted to pick one row at a time, he probably would be looking for a one row machine.

I have two questions about corn pickers

1. Did they even make a 30" two row pull behind corn picker and if so where could I find one

2. What would a New Idea 38" (wide row) two row pull behind picker be worth. It is in excellent shape. I have one we might be looking at selling

thanks for the feedback
