I just bought my first tractor and accesories, a Yanmar 1500D & Leinbach L7300 post hole digger. It also has a 4 in one FEL and a 48in slasher.
I really am flying blind here, but when I try to attatch the post hole digger to the tractor, I am finding that the bottom arms on the tractor don't seem to spread wide enough to fit the U beam of the digger to!
Even if they did spread wide enoungh, it looks as if the lower arms could touch the tractor's rear wheels! I'm sure that wouldn't be a good thing?
Has anyone ever fitted this implement to this type of tractor?
Is the 1500D to small to be able to fit this implement to it?
Any help or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks for taking the time to read by queries.
Regards
Dave (Australia)

The following excerpt is from the description at (Temporarily blocked due to reports of company closure)

This PHD is made for the full size and larger compact tractors, for use with up to 12" augers.

I would try reversing the "hitch pins" so they point in. I have seen similar suggestions here before, but I have no personal experience with doing this.

Thanks for your advice.
I tried reversing the linch pins, but the lower arms still did not spread far enough to accomodate the U arm.
So I had the tabs that the linch pins attatch to cut off and welded back on but rotated 180 degrees so that the pins are about 4 inches closer together and now it all fits nicely.
Today I dug 20 holes to the depth of the 12 inch auger in a decomposed granite type soil. It carved through wihout hesitation and was quite easy to operate for a first time user.
Thanks again for your advice.
Regards
Dave.

Dave.

Decomposed granite, does that imply no rocks. I have clay with gravel/rocks.

Glad you got it working. Can you post pictures of the mods you made. We like pictures.

Be careful those things can kill ya.

Wow, that was way back in 2009.
Sorry I didn't reply back then, I've been too busy tractoring! lol
That Yanmar is now up for sale with a few interested buyers already. It's been a great back saving device. Only using it on occasional weekends, It's help plant over 200 trees and moved about 30 tonne (metric) of garden mix to help bolster the very poor decomposed granite soils I have. It also pulled out about 30 strainer posts (is that what you call them in the US?) and dug dozen of holes for the new rural fencing I had put in.
I upgraded to a New Holland 33hp 4wd tractor with a 4in1 FEL, it came with a 4'slasher, and I'm keeping the post hole digger.
This new one has shuttle drive so it's so much easier to use.

And yes Datanull (if you're still watching this space), I haven't come across a rock bigger than an inch in diameter in all of those holes I've dug. But that stuff set's like cement when it's baked dry in our Australian summers.
And I'm pleased to inform you that it didn't kill me, But you are correct, that post hole digger is a savage piece of equipment that could easily rip off a limb, or far worse, if not treated with the respect it deserves.. Thanks for the heads up.
